    Detroit Multi-Family Director of Development

Our client, a leading real estate private equity investment manager and development firm, is seeking a talented individual to contribute to their ambitious mission of revitalizing communities and creating exceptional living spaces.

    Our client is at the forefront of urban redevelopment, with a strong focus on multifamily residential properties and commercial spaces in Detroit. With a track record of acquiring, rehabilitating, and leasing over one million square feet of real estate, they are committed to delivering high-quality, diverse housing options that meet the needs of the communities.

    Role Overview: As a key member of the team, you will report directly to one of the partners and play a pivotal role in spearheading the development of our client's assets. From inception to completion, you will be instrumental in orchestrating the successful delivery of development projects, ensuring they meet exacting standards of excellence.

    Responsibilities:

    • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to envision, design, and execute successful developments, from pre-acquisition diligence to project closeout.
    • Conduct thorough due diligence on potential development acquisitions to inform decision-making processes.
    • Develop concept scopes, capital budgets, and operating plans, working closely with the finance team to ensure alignment with strategic objectives.
    • Manage architect and design consultants, overseeing design reviews and value engineering initiatives in partnership with construction professionals.
    • Facilitate capital markets efforts to secure equity and debt sources for projects, while providing transparent reporting to investors throughout project delivery.
    • Navigate the complexities of obtaining necessary entitlements, tax abatements, and public sector financial support, fostering meaningful relationships with community members and stakeholders along the way.
    • Coordinate all aspects of construction bidding, contractor selection, and contract execution, ensuring adherence to budgetary and scheduling targets.
    • Collaborate with asset management and property management teams to brand, market, and prepare properties for leasing, while securing retail leases and executing tenant improvement projects.

    Requirements:

    • 5+ years of professional experience in a real estate role, demonstrating a strong track record of success.
    • Bachelor's degree required, with a preference for candidates with backgrounds in real estate, finance, accounting, or economics.
    • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills, coupled with an entrepreneurial drive and intellectual curiosity.
