Position Location (City) Greenville Job Category Staff - Professional Organizational Unit OverviewThe School of Dental Medicine is composed of ten administrative offices and four academic departments.
The Administrative units include the Offices of the Dean, Vice Dean, Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Associate Dean for Research, Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, Associate Dean for Extramural Clinical Practices, Assistant Dean for Dental Education and Informatics, Assistant Dean for Educational Support and Faculty Development, Assistant Dean for Academic Success and the Assistant Dean for Business Operations and Financial Affairs.
The four academic departments are Surgical Sciences, Pediatric Dentistry, Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, General Dentistry and Foundational Sciences.
Included in the mission of the School of Dental Medicine is to educate dental care providers (both dental students and dental residents) and to address the oral health care needs of the underserved population of North Carolina.
The School of Dental Medicine meets these missions by operating dental clinics that provide both educational experiences for the dental students and residents and provides dental care to the residents of North Carolina.
These clinics occur in both Ross Hall in Greenville, North Carolina, as well as Community Service-Learning Centers located throughout North Carolina.
In order to operate these clinics, appropriate dental auxiliaries and clinical staff are needed.Job Duties
A Research Specialist is needed to support the research activities within the ECU School of Dental Medicine. These research activities may include clinical, epidemiological, social and/or bench-top research. Duties include developing, conducting and evaluating scientific research in a laboratory, clinic, field and/or teaching environment. Additional duties will involve screening and evaluating research subjects according to protocol guidelines.
Evaluations may include obtaining medical and dental history, directly interacting with subjects to collect reported and specimen-based data, data abstraction from medical and dental records, and follow-up assessments.
Duties will also involve assisting in recruitment efforts, and data management and entry.Responsibilities include generating genotyping data and supervising of undergraduate research students and graduate research students, overseeing data collection procedures, supervising experimental procedures, review of data for quality control, supervision of data entry/data analysis, analysis of data using descriptive and multivariate statistics, and the development of independent and collaborative presentations and publications.
Perform routine biological procedures such as DNA and RNA extractions, PCR and other reactions.Employers are expected to demonstrate compliance with established guidelines and regulatory standards for research including biosafety (BLS-2+), responsible conduct of research and human subjects training.
The position is offered as a time limited position.DENTAL MEDICINE SUPPORT POSITION - NOT SUBJECT TO STATE HUMAN RESOURCES ACT.

Minimum Education/Experience
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year of related training or experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Proficiency with computing applications (such as power point and excel) and strong communication skills both orally and in writing. Experience in clinical research preferred.
