    Preschool Teacher

    Job Description

    The Preschool Teacher is responsible for planning, organizing, and conducting a preschool classroom with the assistance of teacher aide and parent helpers.

    Qualifications:

    Must be 21 years of age. Degree in Early Childhood or Elementary Education or Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education preferred or college equivalent. Current enrollment in Early Childhood degree program may also be acceptable with a minimum of two years experience working in a preschool or similar setting. Ability to work independently and creatively. CPR and first aid certifications required or will train.

    Immediate Supervisor:

    The Preschool Teacher is responsible to the Recreation Supervisor.

    Essential Functions:

    1. Plan, organize and conduct a preschool classroom under the Park District program philosophy and policies.
    2. Establish and maintain good working relationships with students, parents, recreation supervisor, co-workers, and the community.
    3. Discuss children's conduct and progress with preschool coordinator and parents frequently.
    4. Maintain and supervise use and care of the classroom, equipment, and supplies. Report needed repairs and replacements (as soon as noticed), request special set up (one week in advance), and order supplies and equipment in accordance with the established timeline.
    5. Complete Accident Incident reports on all injuries/incidents on children while in attendance at preschool and inform parents and supervisor immediately.
    6. Attend and participate in staff meetings, planning sessions, in-services, and student field trips.
    7. Supervise the use and care of Park District supplies, equipment, and facilities.
    8. Maintain the classroom, equipment and supplies and report need for repair or replacement in a timely fashion.
    9. Establish and maintain good working relationships with parents, preschool coordinator, recreation supervisor, co-workers, and the community.
    10. Follow the procedure for arranging for a substitute when needed. Have lesson plan available for substitute.
    11. Assist in classroom set up in the morning, afternoon, and at the end of the day.
    12. Check each child's background form for completion, and you are alert to any special circumstances or needs.
    13. Inform parents of preschool class closings due to inclement weather or facility issues.
    14. Monitor children and determine if accommodations or referrals may be necessary.
    15. Serves as a Mandatory Reporter.
    16. Monitor helping parent calendar and ensure families are fulfilling requirements of program.
    17. Provide guidance to teacher aide and helping parent of classroom activities.
    18. Communicate with parents about special events or activities through class calendar. Calendar includes school holidays and non-attendance days.
    19. Coordinate end of year activities to mark the successful completion of students' preschool year.

    Psychological Considerations:

    May need to resolve differences and problems that arise between children.

    Physiological Considerations:

    Must have the ability to listen, hear and speak. Use of hands and fingers will regularly be required, and the ability to stand, sit and walk for extended periods of time.

    Environmental Considerations:

    Activities are performed both indoors and outdoors and conditions can include but are not limited to weather conditions and building maintenance.

    Cognitive Considerations:

    Must possess good safety awareness and judgment. Must be friendly and like to work with people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds.
