    The Woodward Academy Upper School strives to help students fulfill their potential in every facet of their lives. This position involves coordinating all technical needs for the theatre program and stage productions, and teaching Technical Theatre courses in grades 9-12. Specific Duties Include:
    • Design, build sets, provide sound and lighting for Theater Department productions
    • Collaborate with the theatre department to conceptualize, plan, and execute all technical elements of theatrical productions, including set design, lighting, sound, costumes, props, and special effects.
    • Teach various courses in the Upper School each semester. Courses include Introduction to Stagecraft, Technical Theatre Production, Principles of Theatrical Design, and Topics in Theatre: Tech
    • Coordinate and oversee all technical needs in Richardson Hall Theater
    • Manage requests for the use of Richardson Theater, Black Box as well as scene shop, control booth, storage areas, etc
    • Train, manage, and supervise technical crews for each production
    • Provide sound and lighting for Dance and Music Department productions
    • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with the Director of Theatre as well as all of the employees in the Performing Arts Department.
    • Manage and guide technical elements of the Thespian Club
    • Carry out various auxiliary duties related to the general operation of the Upper School
    • Creating a learning environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity, interests, and learning styles of the students
    • Maintaining regular communication with students and their parents regarding progress
    • Displaying a willingness to follow school and departmental procedures and regulations
    Required Skills:
    • Experience in managing multiple productions simultaneously as well as designing scenery, lighting and audio for theatrical productions
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills demonstrating tact and diplomacy
    • Competency with basic word processing, spreadsheets, and internet
    • A solid understanding of learning challenges as well as the accommodations and differentiated learning techniques to support students' needs
    • Strong organizational and classroom management skills
    • Teaching and directing experience with large groups of mixed ability students
    Minimum Job Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's Degree in Technical Theatre or Performing Arts required; MFA preferred
    • 5+ years of experience as a Technical Director as well as experience in a variety of theater arts.
    • Grand MA lighting console, Yamaha M7CL, Vari-Lite, rigging overhead, VectorWorks Design experience preferred
    The Technical Theatre Director and Teacher, Upper School is an exempt, salaried, ten-month position. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. The benefits are substantial. EOE
