Primary Purpose:
The Measurement Analyst performs a variety of critical tasks that will support the goals and initiatives of the Measurement Department and the corporation.
The Measurement Analyst works with upstream and downstream business groups to ensure a complete and timely transfer of required measurement related information.
The Measurement Analyst works to identify and resolve problems and inaccuracies in measurement information that have a financial impact on the organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Utilize skills and knowledge to analyze measurement data, identify measurement data inaccuracies, and work with others to interpret and resolve such inaccuracies
- Participate in the investigation and reconciliation of measurement discrepancies, measurement data issues including the investigation of lost and unaccounted for (L&U) gas and liquid on company owned assets
- Perform data analysis/audits of physical measured points on Kinder Morgan assets.
- Work with downstream business groups and thirdparty interconnecting companies regarding the exchange of thirdparty measurement data.
- Analyze measurement comparison reports and investigate discrepancies outside of defined tolerances.
- Initiate, track and finalize requests for measurement adjustments from third party companies.
- Complete and/or assist with point requests and point setup in measurement and accounting systems.
- Provide timely response to measurement data inquiries, data reports per requests from internal and external customers.
- Manage measurement volume adjustments utilizing the guidelines in the individual pipeline tariffs, general terms & conditions, and contracts and department procedures.
- Prioritize workload to ensure that critical locations are reviewed and completed by a designated time.
- Acquire and maintain a working knowledge of applicable industry related standards and guidelines regarding the measurement of natural gas and liquid products (AGA, GPA, SOX, NAESB, BLM, etc.)
- Acquire an understanding of the corporation's primary business models including the business functions of gathering, transporting, and processing of natural gas and liquids.
- Acquire knowledge regarding the impact of measurement inaccuracies to balancing and to the company.
- Assist with system development, enhancements, system testing, documentation, and training.
- Assist with development and implementation of new measurement procedures and processes.
- Work with Measurement Manager and Supervisor to develop project plans, set goals, tactics, and timelines.
- Share technical and procedural knowledge and help train other team members as required.
- Provide backup support for other team members as needed.
- Notify management of immediate and potential problems affecting the quality and timeliness of measurement data.
- Routinely produce grammatically correct reports, summaries, policies, procedures, and memos.
- Communicate effectively (written and orally) with team members and internal/external customers.
- Ensure personal conformity and support team decisions, departmental policies and procedures, and all mandated industry standards.
- Participate on special projects and assignments as delegated by management.
- Participate in team and department level meetings.
- Organize, schedule, and conduct various meetings as required and accurately document meeting notes and action items.
- Place priority on safety by attending safety meetings, acquiring knowledge of safety guidelines/goals, and working to ensure department and corporate safety guidelines are followed.
Duties Specific to the Volume Analyst:
- Analyze measurement data for completeness, identify trends, discrepancies, and other anomalies using historical trends and knowledge of other operational considerations.
- Research root causes and work with other resources to resolve measurement problems.
- Utilize the measurement system to analyze and adjust measurement corrections as required.
- Research and resolve measurement system validation errors.
- Research and resolve exceptions identified in the data loading process.
- Analyze and review measurement data/graphs, trends, values to identify potential measurement inaccuracies.
- Review, verify, and resolve discrepancies on assigned field meter calibration inspection reports.
- Acquire proficient knowledge of various meters, RTUs, calculations, etc., used in the volume determination process.
- Recognize and help to resolve missing data issues that occur in the transfer of data from the metering device into the downstream measurement and accounting systems.
- Work with management and assigned field technician to make appropriate volume corrections in the measurement system.
- Retain accurate and complete documentation for measurement data edits and adjustments per department policies and procedures.
- Manage measurement information from third party companies.
- Understand and follow volume adjustment guidelines
