    Description

    Located in the Division of STD, HIV, Hepatitis, and TB Elimination of the Office of Epidemiology and Prevention Services, the STD Prevention Specialist will work at the full performance level coordinating public health efforts to: Prevent and control sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), Develop policy and procedures based on standards and regulations, Provide immediate response to disease trends, and administer oversight of program initiatives.


    This position will serve as the STD subject matter expert and will be the point of contact for both internal and external partners regarding protocols, reportable diseases, recommendations/guidelines, and STD/HIV testing initiatives and will also coordinate the sexually transmitted infection (STI) prevention programs outreach STI testing initiatives.


    This is a data-driven initiative that targets population groups deemed to be at greater risk for STI and HIV infection.

    The Prevention Specialist helps identify community sites statewide for conducting targeted STI testing outreach in collaboration with the HIV Prevention Program Coordinator and Director and the STI/HIV Surveillance Units.

    The Prevention Specialist will also be dedicated to providing STI prevention education to community partners and the general public. Other duties as assigned.


    The STD Prevention Specialist is necessary to integrate public health efforts with those of providers and community partners to prevent and control the spread of STls.

    This position is highly critical in response to current STI trends that continue to increase throughout the state and is responsible for building an STI Prevention Program in compliance with WV disease protocols and CDC grant requirements to align with the national and state elimination plan.

    Training:
    Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.

    Substitution:
    Additional experience as described below may be substituted for the required training on a year-for-year basis.

    Experience:

    Two (2) years full-time, equivalent part-time paid or volunteer experience in a technical or program area that is related to the area of employment.


    Substitution:

    Post-graduate education in a field related to the area of employment may be substituted for the required experience on the basis of fifteen semester hours for one (1) year of experience.


    OR
    Master's degree in social work from a regionally accredited social work program from a regionally accredited college or university.

    Appointment above the entry rate may be made at 5% for each six (6) months of successfully completed work as an intern in a practicum placement with the Department of Health and Human Resources for the Master of Social Work degree.
