    JOB SUMMARY

    Position develops, implements and maintains an exemplary student education program in conjunction with federal and state requirements and the district's mission, goals and specific program requirements.

    Supervises and manages all aspects of a school including business/fiscal, student instruction, employee assignments and job performance, extracurricular activities including athletic/sports events and building and grounds maintenance.

    Regularly engages in long-range, strategic planning for the program including staff development, replacing/upgrading equipment and instructional materials and building/grounds preventive maintenance.


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    Essential duties of this position include the following tasks. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned at any time.
    Organizes, develops, implements and supervises the student educational program at the school level.

    With teachers and other staff members, engages in long-range, strategic planning for the program based upon federal and state requirements and the district's mission, goals and specific requirements for the program.

    Identifies, evaluates and, as approved, implements program changes for enhanced program services and activities.

    With Business Services, develops and administers the annual school budget, monitors expenditures and maintains all financial records required by law and district policies and procedures.

    With Business Services, writes specifications for purchases, including quotes, proposals and bids, for supplies, equipment and other goods and services for the school.

    Follows all district purchasing procedures and requirements.
    Determines school and program staffing needs and organization. With Human Resources Department, recruits and hires qualified individuals to fill vacant or new positions. Assists in selection of staff, assignments and with supervision for departments or programs with established shared supervision.
    Ensures completion of necessary/required training. Supervises and regularly evaluates school employees including licensed and classified personnel.
    Conducts regular staff meetings.

    Recommends to the superintendent the renewal, contract extension, contract nonrenewal, contract non-extension or dismissal of licensed employees following applicable federal and state laws, board policies and collective bargaining agreements.

    Appoints, promotes, assigns, transfers, demotes or discharges classified and non-represented employees following applicable federal and state laws, board policies and collective bargaining agreements.

    Assigns and transfers licensed employees.
    Manages and supervises school leadership teams.
    Administer all district policies and regulations.
    Develops, implements and monitors student discipline procedures for consistency and effectiveness.

    Maintains required records and ensures accuracy and necessary content as required by federal and state laws and regulations and district policies and procedures.

    Takes reasonable steps to protect students, staff, facilities and equipment. With Facilities and Systems Operations Departments, ensures completion of required/requested building maintenance and care of school grounds.
    Develops and maintains effective working relationships with other building principals, teachers and other staff members, parents/guardians and community members.

    Regularly uses oral, written and electronic communications to school employees, other administrators, other staff members, students, parents/guardians and community members regarding the school's education program, goals and activities.

    Retains copies of communications from staff, students, parents/guardians and community members and advises the Executive Director as necessary. Timely investigates and responds to complaints and union grievances. Supervises complex investigations.

    Establishes procedures to involve teachers, other staff members and representatives from parent/guardian, student and community groups when preparing, selecting and adopting courses of study and other instructional materials.

    With other required/desired participants, develops and evaluates school improvement plans and staff development plans which will be aligned with state and district requirements.

    Builds and maintains partnerships with state, county and city agencies, local businesses and other community resources.
    Presents issues and concerns to Executive Director and the superintendent for review and resolution.
    Demonstrates knowledge and skill in applying conflict management and dispute resolution techniques.
    Keeps abreast of trends and best practices and their potential impacts upon school programs, activities and operations. Maintains professional relationships with colleagues and participates in professional development activities which enhance the school's programs and activities.
    Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of all district policies and procedures.
    Maintains consistent, daily and punctual attendance.
    NON-
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    Non-essential duties of this position include the following tasks. Employees in this position perform some or all of these tasks. Other duties may be assigned at any time.
    Maintains all required records related to any awarded grant.
    Serves on task forces and hosts educator delegations.
    Encourages vigorous and sound instructional research by teachers and other staff members.
    Assumes classroom teacher duties when necessary.
    Operates various office equipment including audio visual equipment/devices, telephones and photocopy machines.
    Attends in-service trainings, staff meetings and other meetings as assigned. Attends professional growth activities related to job responsibilities.
    Provides staff development activities for staff during in-service meetings.
    Serves on building and district committees and councils as assigned.
    Supervises students on school grounds, on field trips and at various school functions.

    Reports issues to the appropriate school and civil authorities including safety, sanitary and fire hazards, vandalism, thefts and errant wildlife.


    OTHER REQUIREMENTS
    Consistently follows all applicable federal and state laws and all district policies, rules and supervisor directions.
    Observes ergonomics of sedentary office work including placement of computers and monitors, and sitting alignment.
    Observes proper lifting techniques and other strategies to avoid accidents and personal injury while performing job duties.
    Performs other duties as assigned.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
    All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment.

    QUALIFICATIONS
    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.     Education and/or Experience:
    A Master's degree in Educator or related field is required. A Doctorate is preferred. A valid Oregon administrator license is required. A minimum of five years of successful teaching and a minimum of three years of administrative experience are required.


    Demonstrated knowledge of:
    Child and adolescent growth and development
    Project management principles
    Group facilitation techniques
    Academic curriculum, teaching techniques and student learning measurements
    Current theories and practices regarding educational reform
    Employee evaluation and discipline is required.

    Interpersonal Skills:
    Works well with others from diverse backgrounds.

    Focuses on solving conflict, maintaining confidentiality, listening to others, keeping emotions under control, remaining open to others' ideas and contributing to building a positive team spirit.

    Demonstrates the ability to remain calm and professional in an environment with frequent interruptions. Interacts with staff and students positively and appropriately.

    Language Skills:
    Ability to communicate in English fluently both verbally and in writing, including proficiency in spelling and grammar.

    Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, staff, regulatory agencies, vendors and members of the community.

    Ability to read and interpret documents including governmental regulations, safety rules and operating and maintenance instructions/ instruction manuals. Ability to prepare routine reports and correspondence with high degrees of accuracy and professionalism.

    Mathematical Skills:

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

    Ability to calculate rates, ratios, percentages and proportions. Ability to read and interpret various charts, bar graphs and similar visual data depictions.

    Reasoning Ability:
    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in oral, schedule or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving more than one variable.

    Computer Skills:

    Ability to effectively use office computers and internet access for email, research, word processing, database manipulation, visual presentations and general web-based applications.


    Other Skills and Abilities:
    Ability to exercise good judgment and work effectively in a dynamic environment. Ability to regularly work flexible hours.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
    A valid Oregon Driver's License is required. Valid First Aid and CPR cards are required.

    Must have or able to obtain various certificates, licenses and/or registrations as required by federal, state or local law(s) and/or determined by the district.
