    Description
    Assignments are 10 months per year and 8 hours per day. Extended School Year work may be available, with extra hourly pay, based on district needs.


    An Occupational Therapist provides educationally related occupational therapy services to students, aged 3 to 22 years, with various disabilities according to the students' Individualized Education Program (IEP).

    The Occupational Therapist participates as a member of the educational team; provides assessment, consultation, and direct occupational therapy to students within educational, developmental, and functional parameters; and develops and implements individual occupational therapy intervention plans.

    Assesses students' abilities and performance in activities that are related to the curriculum and applicable to activities of daily living.

    Identifies and documents student abilities and educational, developmental, and functional needs. Provides reports to the IEP team.
    Attends IEP meetings as needed to assist in the development of student IEPs.

    Develops, coordinates, implements, and monitors individual occupational therapy intervention plans that support the IEP goals and objectives; reevaluates plans on a regular basis.

    Assists with the development of student transition plans, program, and goals.

    Maintains progress notes and records regarding areas of service as required by law, Board policy, Administrative regulations, and the District.

    Reviews reports from health care providers and coordinates occupational therapy services with students' health care providers.
    Collaborates with District health personnel in the coordination of medical care protocols.
    Provides assistance to program staff as part of case management through consultation, training, and individual and group activities.
    Provides technical assistance to the teaching staff.

    Clarifies occupational therapy goals, objectives, and services and provides consultation to and responds to inquiries from parents, students, teachers, program staff, administrators, and others.

    Employment Standards

    Minimum Requirements:


    Education:

    Graduation from an accredited occupational therapy educational program that includes successful completion of an internship within a school-based setting.


    License or Certificate:


    Valid certification as an Occupational Therapist by the American Occupational Therapy Association or the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy before completion of the probationary period.

    First Aid and CPR certification.
    Possession of a valid State of California Class C driver's license.


    Desirable:

    One year of recent, successful experience in planning and providing occupational therapy services, preferably with children and adolescents.
    Written and oral proficiency in a second language.

    Hiring for this position is on as-needed basis and could occur at anytime during a school year. There is no regular exam or hiring schedule. A review of applicants' experience and qualifications is conducted periodically.

    Based on that evaluation, a limited number of applicants whose qualifications best meet the current needs of the District will be invited to participate in the next step of the examination process.

    The examination will include a technical interview.

    Benefits for permanent employees who work 4 or more hours per day include medical, dental, vision and life insurance. Maximum health and welfare employer contribution is $34,113.00 annually.

    Salary:
    The beginning salary is shown on each examination announcement. New employees start at the first step.

    Employees with satisfactory service receive salary increases upon completion of their probationary period and at one-year intervals thereafter, up to the maximum rate.


    Holidays:

    Regular classified employees are entitled to pay for authorized holidays, provided they were in a paid status during any portion of the working day immediately preceding or succeeding the holiday.


    Sick Leave:
    One day of sick leave earned per month, accumulation is unlimited.

    Retirement:

    All new employees who work half time or more must become members of the California Public Employees Retirement System and the Federal Social Security program.

    Contributions are withheld from salary. Employees may become eligible for retirement at age 50 with a minimum of five years service.

    Examination Process:
    A review of the applicants' experience and qualifications will be conducted.

    Based on that evaluation, a limited number of applicants whose qualifications best meet the current needs of the district will be invited to participate in the next step of the examination process.

    The examination process will consist of one or more related test parts covering any subject matter appropriate to the duties of the position.

    Qualified applicants will be advised of the test components and weights prior to the administration of the first test part.


    Eligibility List:

    Candidates successfully completing all phases of the application and examination procedure will be ranked on the appropriate eligibility list according to their total examination scores.

    This list is normally in effect for one year.

    Classification:

    When a vacant position is to be filled, the top three reachable ranks from the eligibility list are contacted for employment interviews.

    The supervisor of the vacant position will interview those candidates and may make a selection from any one of them.

    Depending on the vacancy, current employees in the same classification who have a transfer request on file, may also be interviewed.

    New employees must serve a six-month or one-year probationary period, depending on the classification involved.

    Fingerprint Requirement:
    California state law requires that all classified employees be fingerprinted. Candidates are responsible for paying the fees.

    Certificate of Tuberculosis Examination:

    New employees must furnish proof that within the last 60 days they have had a Mantoux tuberculin skin test.


    Accommodation:

    Physical Examination:

    As a condition of employment, all prospective new hires must receive District approval relating to their fitness to work based on a physical examination and laboratory tests, which include a urinalysis.

    The urinalysis includes a drug screening. These tests must be given by a District-approved physician.


    Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting Training (AB1432): As a state requirement, all prospective employees of the district are required to complete the Mandated Reported Educators Training course, prior to their start date of employment.

    The training must also be completed annually thereafter.

    Veterans Preference:

    Five additional points of credit are added in entry-level examinations to the final passing score of qualified veterans showing 30 days or more service during time of war (10 points for disabled veterans) upon presentation of proof of veterans' status (Form DD-214).

    This evidence must be presented during the examination procedure. No credit will be given after this period.
