    Software Engineer III – Front-End Engineer, Informatics

    How you will Achieve More with Intellia


    As a Software Engineer III, you will join our Informatics Software group's Data Engineering & Visualization team producing software services accelerating the pace of R&D and enabling the decisions that drive Intellia's programs.

    Our cloud-based, end-to-end data systems encompass raw genomic data; ingestion, validation, and storage of experimental metadata; ETL pipelines and visualization tools to transform unprocessed analysis results into actionable insights; and a web-based platform where users can trigger experimental pipelines and explore analysis results.

    In your role as a front-end engineer, you will help build a new visualization platform which supports interactive, workflow-based analysis pipeline triggers, as well as dashboard pages for exploring analysis results and summarizing key experimental findings.


    Main responsibilities include:
    Work with scientific stakeholders to develop robust, process-based software solutions to automate experimental analysis workflows

    Develop visualization tools which enable scientists to design, track and analyze experiments

    Contribute to project scoping, requirement gathering, and authoring software design documents

    Define and implement well scoped task- and feature-level issues for production applications

    Participate in integration of product updates by performing code reviews, end-user acceptance testing, and communication of updates and releases to key stakeholders
    About You

    You are interested in delivering software solutions which enable your colleagues to move efficiently.

    Our ideal candidate will have a BS/MS in Computer Science or related field as well as experience in the biotech industry.

    Our team works in a hybrid environment, and we use GitHub for online project management and source control.

    Skills and technologies you should be familiar with include:

    JavaScript- or TypeScript-based frameworks for building web applications such as React or VueJS; experience with Vue3 is a plus

    Frameworks for building interactive scientific visualization tools such as Tableau or Plotly; experience with Apache Superset is a plus

    Strong fundamentals in HTML and CSS

    Front end unit and end-to-end testing frameworks such as Jest, Vitest, or Cypress

    Knowledge and application of software design patterns, and adherence to industrial code quality standards around testing and documentation

    Our core APIs and back-end data services are built in Python using FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, and Pydantic, and deployed on AWS using GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines managed via Terraform; experience in this paradigm is a plus
    Meet your future team

    The Informatics team consists of two teams including computational scientists and software engineers. Software engineers work with their scientific counterparts to streamline workflows and create web-based data services. The Informatics team performs development and operational functions of our AWS cloud-based infrastructure. We work with several remote domain specific contractors to supplement internal resources.

    We are primarily remote with the occasional visit to the laboratory when onsite testing is required.

    By utilizing modern development methodologies and remote conferencing tools we have maintained a high level of productivity and software delivery.
