- Interviews patients, their families and prospective parents referred by obstetrician and/or physician to discuss genetic background as it relates to their future offspring.
- Maintains records pertaining to amniocentesis and chronic villus sampling.
- Interviews prospective parents with repeated instances of fetal wastage (miscarriage).
- Performs counseling and carrier screening for gene carrier status as well as for other genetic diseases as required.
- Interviews adults with known and unknown genetic syndromes and/or genetic disease, or parents of children with genetic syndromes or disease.
- Discusses possibility of pre-symptomatic screening when appropriate.
- Attends case conference with entire genetic team to discuss patient cases and review problems.
- Attends Peer Group Meetings with genetic counselors.
- Acts as preceptor to the Graduate Students interning in the Medical Genetics Program.

Job Qualification- Master's Degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- 1-3 years of relevant experience, required.

Counsels patients and their families regarding mode of inheritance, risk for recurrence and availability of cancer testing and prenatal diagnosis for specific genetic disorders.
