The role of research Genetic Counselor (GC) within the Division of Medical Genetics and Human Genomics at Cohen Children's Medical Center (CCMC) and Northwell Health is primarily to support and oversee the research activities of the Division.

The individual filling this role should be able to perform all roles of a clinical GC (patient visits, intakes, family histories, return result counseling etc ) and contribute to the clinical mission of the Division, however the primary role will be in support of the various research programs and broader initiatives of the Division including (but not limited to): the broad scale Research Biobanking Initiative, research activities related to the Center for Children with Rare Diagnoses (CCRD),


Goals and Responsibilities:

  • Support the writing and submission of a broad scale IRB protocol for enrollment of all patients, and their family members, at CCMC and Northwell
  • Maintenance and oversight of the IRB protocol once approved
  • Oversee system to enroll and track patients, consent parents, coordinate blood draws for children and parents, providing clinical research coordinator (CRC) oversight
  • Develop research based educational materials for clinicians and families
  • Serve as PR liaison for research activities
  • Support the research database and dashboard development and population efforts
  • Oversee DNA extraction, LCL sample effort and support for biobanking/biorepository efforts
  • Support intra
- and extramural research collaborative efforts.

  • Spearhead abstract and manuscript preparation and serve as support for other staff and faculty in the Division (and external collaborators) for scholarly pursuits
