Summary of Job
The best buyers are multi-functional.

They have the ability to work with all functions/departments within a manufacturing facility including, but not limited to, customer service, scheduling, production, shipping, and in coordinating all aspects of the product throughout its lifecycle.

This includes negotiating with vendors, monitoring and sustaining inventory levels, and collaborating with the leadership team.

Their greatest skill is having the ability to understand and respect the critical roles of other departments on the team and lead best practice initiatives.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Oversee and perform all purchasing activities for raw materials, production supplies, nonproduction supplies and freight.
  • Monitor and place POs for primary and secondary materials at the right price, time, and place. In addition, coordinate the forecast, scheduling, and releases of trucks for prime materials.
  • Establish, coordinate, and enforce spending budgets.
  • Source and manage inventories of maintenance, repair, and operational supplies; place and approve orders when necessary; manage building facilities services regarding pricing negotiation and supplier performance; manager of vendor management programs.
  • Negotiate pricing with vendors.
  • Continuous analysis of source for raw materials and other supplies.
  • Monitor inventory levels to ensure constant supply.
  • Develop and execute purchasing strategies concurrent with overall company strategy.
  • Support, demonstrate and promote Pregis' core values: integrity, collaboration, customer focus and innovation.
  • Adheres to the highest standards of company safety programs, guidelines, rules, and regulations including all personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Attends meetings and completes safety trainings as required. Performs other jobrelated duties as assigned. If requested, reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job, absent undue hardship to the business.

Physical Characteristics

  • Occasional standing, stooping, squatting, up to 25%
  • Frequent typing/keyboarding/preparing documents, voice
- assisted as needed

Education and Experience

  • 25 years of purchasing experience, Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience in manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and the ability to quickly learn and use other systems/software packages.
  • Prior SAP or similar ERP system knowledge is a plus.
