EMCORE operates in two business segments: Aerospace & Defense and Broadband.The A&D business is largely comprised of a suite of inertial navigation products and solutions, while Broadband is the traditional chips business and optical components sold into the cable TV infrastructure market.In 2022, the Company expanded its A&D business with the completion of two carve-out acquisitions - the Space & Navigation operation in Budd Lake from L3Harris and the Inertial Navigation business unit in Tinley Park from KVH Industries.This created the world's largest independent supplier of inertial navigation solutions to A&D customers, and the Company's strategy for growth is focused on capitalizing on an increasing number of opportunities in this large market.

This position has a salary range of $150k to $250k, depending on skill and experience levels.
This position has the opportunity to be eligible to participate in a bonus target plan of up to 30% of base salary, payable based on achievement of company, and individual goals.It is prorated for thenumber of days worked during the fiscal year.
Position Specification - Controller, EMCORE Corporation (Nasdaq: EMKR)

Controller Role - EMCORE seeks a collaborative and operational Controller who is equally adept as a business partner to operational leaders as s/he is in interacting with the accounting and finance community (external auditors, bankers, consultants, etc.).The successful candidate with have an "organization" mentality that makes the business and the people their toppriorities.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller is responsible for the management of financial processes, systems, and controls; reporting results on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis; meeting regulatory deadlines; safeguarding Company assets; directing and administering budgets and operating plans; designing and measuring key performance indicators; and providing accurate and timely financial information that assists in operational decision-making, resource allocation, and investment decisions.

Reporting & Sox Compliance:

Oversee and participate in the monthly close process with a focus on integrity of results, timeliness, developing good and effective close processes, documentation requirements, journal entry review, and timely overview of the reconciliation of major accounts
Develop relationships with key functional personnel to ensure a timely and consistent dialogue of activity and that all significant business issues are raised in a timely fashion and analyzed and recorded correctly in accordance with GAAP
Oversees the development and change process within the financial management process and provide leadership and direction when necessary
Lead internal activities associated with quarterly and year-end financial audits and SOX compliance
Coordinate with IT on implementation and maintenance of accounting and internal control systems

Cost Accounting & Contract Accounting:

Review monthly cost variances with cost accounting team and operations management
Review monthly revenue recognition calculations related to % of completion contracts
Oversee semi-annual inventory standard cost roll and updated overhead rates
Develop monthly product profitability and publish segment reporting

Forecasting and Reporting:

Manage the annual operating plan and budgets, target setting, and business planning processes
Manage the timely development and publication of accurate internal financial statements through analyzing and interpreting financial and operating data for management
Analyze operational issues impacting functional groups and determines their financial impact
Monitors progress of business objectives throughout the year

Treasury & Tax Support:

Manage company cash flow through weekly cash forecasts and report the cash position and related issues to the CFO
Manages tax accounting activities, programs, and compliance.

SEC Reporting:

Support SEC reporting with submission of financial reports and supporting documentation
Input on MD&A portions of the 10-Qs and 10-Ks

Managerial:

Manage staff and staff development
Mentor and inspire performance
Make employment and compensation decisions related to staff
Advise management on applicable industry trends and legislation
Read, analyze, and interpret professional technical procedures, government regulations, financial reports, and legal documents.
Respond to common inquiries from customers and regulatory agencies

Treasury/Cash Management
Budgeting, Forecasting, Planning, ad-hoc analysis, and other FP&A type activities
Financial Systems (reports to IT but works on financial systems)
Manage outsourced Tax function
Individuals working remote and/or at other facilities besides Alhambra
Working closely with SEC reporting personnel during quarter-ends and year-ends
Manage tax needs and outsourced tax function

Minimum Qualifications:

The Controller must be able to perform each essential duty at a high level.Requirements listed below are representative of some, but not all, of the knowledge, skill, and ability needed:

Extensive GAAP financial reporting in a public company setting, including quarter-end and year-end demands, and working with external auditors.
Extensive cost accounting knowledge, especially with standard cost methods in complex, multi-site manufacturing environments.
Extensive systems background, including database and accounting computer application systems to supply the most accurate financial information.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Minimum of 10 years of experience managing a sizable staff.Excellent leadership skills and management of staff, with direct reports.
Minimum years of similar type experience: 20 years
Minimum years in similar role in a manufacturing environment: 10 years
Bachelor's degree in accounting (or equivalent education) is required; MBA and CPA are highly desirable
Based full-time, on-site 100% at Emcore's headquarters in Alhambra, CA.
Occasional travel as required.
