- Assist in direct patient care of an assigned group of patients.
- Take and record vital signs in the EMR as directed, including temperatures, respiration's pulse, blood pressure, SAO2, and I & O.
- Assist the patient with general physical hygiene measures such as bathing, mouth care, dietary intake, and elimination.
- Assist patients with meals as indicated including passing trays.
- Provide patients with fresh water at least two times per shift.
- Assist with ambulation, transfers, and repositioning.
- Change bed linens as needed.
- Carries out special orders, after proper training, including ROME, enemas, application of abdominal binders, ace wraps, and ted hose, collection of specimens, and RT equipment setup.
- Provides for patient comfort, mentally, spiritually, and physically.
- Assists with pre-op and post-op care of patients as directed.
- Assists in post-mortem care of the patient and comfort to the family.
- Functions as an active member of the health care team.
- Observes patient condition for signs and symptoms which may indicate a change in patient status and reports pertinent observations to charge RN.
- Assist with admission, discharge, and transfer of patients as needed.
- Records on patient record all pertinent information using EMR.
- Answers call lights promptly and courteously.
- Assists other staff members in completion of their duties as time and assignments allow.
- Responds to all code blue and emergency situations, as directed.
- Assists in orientation of new employees as directed.
- Performs general unit duties independently.
- Knowledge of supplies and locations so able to obtain them efficiently as needed. Order supplies as necessary.
- Assists in general ward clerk duties including maintaining charts and general clerical duties as assigned. Refer to unit clerk checklist.
- Answers and documents ambulance calls when RN and/or LPN are predisposed.
- Uses present paging system effectively.
- Assists in providing for patient safety.
- Insures nurse call bell is within patient reach at all times.
- Assist in keeping the patient unit neat and free of obstructions.
- Transfers patients using proper body mechanics and adequate assistance.
- Knows and observes hospital and departmental safety, fire, and disaster policies and procedures.
- Maintains current CPR certification.
- Reports and documents incidents involving patients, staff, and visitors.
- Reports breakage of equipment immediately.
- Is aware of and promotes the Fall Prevention Program.
- Demonstrates a professional attitude.
- Dresses neatly and in accordance with present dress code.
- Utilizes appropriate chain of command.
- Respects patient privacy at all times.
- Maintains strict confidentiality of all patient and hospital related information.
- Respects and supports co-workers.
- Conducts self in a professional manner. Swearing, gossiping, loud conversations, etc., are not tolerated.
- Performs daily assignments utilizing the AHS SHARE principles.
- Participates in inservices and meetings to improve current skill and knowledge.
- Attends staff meetings and inservices (at least half of them in past year).
- Demonstrates willingness to learn new procedures.
- Provides suggestions in problem areas.
- Participates in Quality Improvement teams/projects when asked.
- Uses available on-line lessons for education.
- At least 18 years of age
- Valid State of Wisconsin Certified Nursing Assistant certificate
- BCLS obtained through the American Heart Association (within 1 year of employment)
