BUYER I

JOB SUMMARY


The Buyer I is the first-level Buyer position in the Procurement Department and works in conjunction with and in support of senior purchasing staff in the tactical and strategic procurement of assigned commodities.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES


Job duties/responsibilities for the Buyer I include gathering and analyzing inventory levels and production system demands, generating quotations and preparing and placing purchase orders for procurement of goods and services.

The Buyer I should be familiar with most if not all basic purchasing concepts, practices, and procedures such as non-disclosure, request for quotation, agency and the contractual relationship.

The Buyer I must rely on this basic knowledge to be successful when executing the Buyer I duties. The following tasks are required of the Buyer I.

  • Conducts purchasing activities while optimizing the value of cost, quality and delivery.
  • Safeguards company confidential information by executing nondisclosure agreements (NDAs) before conducting business with suppliers, where applicable.
  • Analyzes and verifies specifications for requests from internal customers, identifies approved suppliers, or sources new suppliers in order to execute purchases.
  • Based upon goods or services needed, competitively bids specifications and work to obtain contractual arrangements for the purchase of goods and services.
  • Maintains quality control and safety objectives complementary to corporate policies and goals.
  • Ensures that Company purchases are in compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations and comply with Core Laboratories' purchasing guidelines / approval authority.
  • With oversight by senior purchasing staff, analyzes goods and services and develops or recommends ways to reduce costs while maintaining quality.
  • Prepares and issues purchase orders, obtains written acknowledgement from suppliers and administers purchase orders through delivery and payment.
  • Resolves invoice, shipping, and nonconforming parts discrepancies.
  • Compiles and maintains records of items purchased including, prices, deliveries, and inventories.
  • Consults catalogs and conducts interviews with suppliers to obtain specifications.
  • Monitors and reports on supplier performance (e.g., quality, delivery).
  • Serves as a professional resource to assist other procurement personnel as needed.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Minimum 3 years of experience in a purchasing/procurement environment required with a Bachelor's degree. Minimum 7 years of experience in a purchasing/procurement environment required without a Bachelor's degree.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS

None required.

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Membership in the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) or the Association for Operations Management (APICS) is preferred.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and understand engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Experience with Oracle and MRP reporting is preferred.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office required (i.e., Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent communication skills are required.
