Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Residency Training:
Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
NOTE:
VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.)
Approved residencies are:
(1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences
Additional Requirement:
Successful completion of an accredited residency in internal medicine; successful completion of an accredited fellowship in hematology-oncology; certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) in internal medicine and hematology-oncology

Physical Requirements:
Eligible applicants must be physically and mentally able to perform efficiently the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, without hazard to themselves or others
Duties:
Works as a physician and is accountable for providing direct patient care to outpatient and inpatient Veterans in accordance with approved clinical privileges in internal medicine and hematology-oncology.
This responsibility includes collaboration with ARNPs or PAs in the care of such patients.Provide state of the art outpatient care to hematology/oncology patients which includes new consultations, initiation and management of chemotherapy, maintaining proficiency with appropriate procedures required for care of such patients, and follow-up care of such patients.
-Manage chronic medical problems and preventive medicine such as management of problems specific to hematology /oncology patients. -Provide consultative care to inpatients with hematology/oncology related issues, including initiating and managing Chemotherapy. -Participate in the training of medical students, residents, and fellows on the hematology service. -Promote an atmosphere of efficiency and accuracy in the timeliness of completed documents. -Support research activities in the Section -Collaborate and supervise ARNPs and PAs working in the Section. -Actively participate in Section activities to ensure that the Veterans are receiving the best care possible. -Will attend Oncology/Hematology related committees, work groups, etc. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package.
