    Summary

    This prestigious opportunity is part of the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a fantastic student loan reimbursement program. Candidates must meet specific eligibility criteria and submit their EDRP application within four months of being appointed. The VHA's Education Loan Repayment Services program office will determine the approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (ranging from one to five years) upon completion of the application evaluation.

    Qualifications

    To be considered for this role, candidates need to fulfill the following Basic Requirements:

    • Essential qualifications along with any additional requirements stated in the job announcement
    • Individuals pending the completion of training or licensing prerequisites may be referred and conditionally selected but cannot commence employment until all requirements are satisfied
    • Physicians currently employed at VA hospitals who met the requirements during their initial appointment are considered to have fulfilled the basic job criteria
    • Primary Requirements: U.S. Citizenship

    • Doctor of Medicine degree or an equivalent qualification from a recognized school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs
    • Valid license to practice medicine or surgery in the United States
    • Completion of residency training in an accredited program leading to board certification eligibility

    NOTE:
    Approved residencies:

    (1) Programs accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), (2) Those endorsed by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), or (3) Other residency programs followed by a minimum of five years of practice in the U.S. approved by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee.

    • Residents currently in ACGME/AOA training programs who meet job prerequisites can be appointed as 'Physician Resident Providers' (PRPs)
    • PRPs must hold full physician licenses and may serve on an intermittent or fee-basis
    • Surgery residents in gap years may also be eligible as PRPs
    • Proficiency in English is essential

    Additional Requirement:
    Successful completion of:

    Accredited residency in internal medicine, accredited fellowship in hematology-oncology, and certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) in both disciplines.

    Physical Requirements:
    Candidates must be physically and mentally capable of executing the core job duties with or without reasonable accommodation, ensuring safety for all.

    Duties

    Duties:

    As a physician, you will provide direct patient care to veterans in outpatient and inpatient settings, covering internal medicine and hematology-oncology.

    This includes collaborating with ARNPs or PAs.

    Offer top-notch outpatient care to hematology/oncology patients, including consultations, chemotherapy management, necessary procedures, and follow-up care.


    • Manage chronic conditions and offer preventive care tailored to hematology/oncology patients
    • Provide consultative services to inpatients with hematology/oncology concerns, including chemotherapy management
    • Participate in training medical students, residents, and fellows in hematology services
    • Support research endeavors within the Section
    • Supervise ARNPs and PAs in the Section
    • Actively engage in Section activities to ensure exemplary patient care for veterans
    • Participate in relevant committees and work groups
    Compensation:
