Business Intelligence Analyst - San Francisco, United States - Check

    Default job background
    Description

Check is leading a revolution in the payroll industry. Payroll is the backbone of the US economy, and yet it has not undergone significant innovation in decades. We invented the embedded payroll space to change that (see: Check: Solving the $150 Billion Payroll Problem, Bank On It; Episode 438), both for the business owners who spend countless hours per week running payroll and for the millions of Americans who depend on their next paycheck. At Check, our mission is to empower the most innovative software platforms to create new payroll businesses, and enable those businesses to transform the way companies pay their employees.

Check's culture is intensely caring: to each other as teammates, to our partners, and to the businesses and workers we serve. Our teams are made up of creative problem solvers and empathetic cross-functional collaborators who can simplify the complexities of payroll. We bring hustle and grit to our day-to-day, while building enduring solutions and relationships.

Check is looking for its first Business Intelligence hire. Reporting to the Head of Finance and Business Operations, this person will be the end-to-end analytics owner who partners with stakeholders across the company to provide accurate and validated data insights that drive business impact. We are looking for someone who is passionate about driving change using data and has experience collaborating with a diverse set of stakeholders. The ideal candidate is highly technical, business-oriented, and thrives in ambiguity.

    In this role, you will:

    • Be the steward of Check's data. Develop a deep understanding of the most critical data required to enable teams, and build and maintain the core data models required for performance monitoring, KPI reporting, and workflow enablement for these teams.
    • Turn data into decision-making. Utilize SQL and other data analysis tools to extract, transform, and analyze data, and share actionable insights to stakeholders to drive clarity in decision-making across Check.
    • Maintain and extend existing analytics. Take ownership of existing analytics efforts, and proactively look for opportunities to improve the analytical rigor across the company.
    • Keep a pulse on topline metrics and unit economics. Be keenly aware of changes to Check's key financial and business performance metrics, and proactively investigate changes and share insights with key stakeholders.
    • Partner widely. Work with the Finance & BizOps team and collaborate with stakeholders across Engineering, Operations, Finance, and Risk. The stronger these partnerships, the more successful you and Check will be.
Many backgrounds could fit this role, but ideal candidates will have:
    • A proven track record of building and maintaining complex data models, across a variety of data sources, that deliver consistent outputs across the company
    • Experience scaling analytics infrastructure and operations
    • Experience working with leadership to define and model KPIs
    • Provide actionable insights to improve marketing initiatives and budget allocation
    • Ability to translate ad hoc requests into enhancements to our core data models
    • Ability to distill complex issues into structured frameworks
    • Experience building and maintaining analytics tech-stack: ETL tools (e.g. Fivetran, Stitch), analytics tools (e.g. Mode), data catalogs, and databases (Redshift, Postgres, Snowflake)
    • Experience modeling Salesforce, revenue, and product usage data
    • Strong SQL skills (4+ years experience)
    • 5+ years of data modeling experience in an analytical position
    We use:
    • Snowflake
    • Stitch
    • Mode
    • DBT
    • Postgres for our database
    • AWS for our cloud infrastructure
