    Director of Transportation


    Position PurposeUnder the general supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of Business, Finance, and Operations, to supervise the day-to-day operations of the school system's transportation department.

    Essential FunctionsSupervise the day-to-day operations of the school system's transportation departmentDevelop and implement the department's personnel human resource plan, including recruitment, developing, and retaining staff; evaluating and counseling staff; and providing opportunities for growth and professional development at all levels of the departmentDevelops and updates bus routes and schedules; makes notifications to those needing to know of updated routes and schedules; coordinates transportation for extracurricular events (sports, field trips, etc.); responds to after hour emergency calls; and operates a school bus in the event of emergency or shortage of driversImplements all federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, and System Board Policy as it pertains to the system's transportation department; compiles and maintains all records required for transportation; enforce all safety standards that conform with federal, state, and insurance regulationsImplements system student discipline policies for transportation and communicates to all stakeholders; and develops plan to report discipline events to the school administration for consequencesAdministers transportation budget and ensures that the program is cost-effective and funds are managed wisely; and prepares data necessary to process payroll and attendance monthlySchedules state inspections yearly; oversees plan for monthly inspections of each bus; keeps records on bus shop orders: and turns in signed invoices for parts and services monthlyAdvises Superintendent of inclement weather and/or road hazards; and develop a team and gather information for bus accident investigationsAttend and make presentations at conferences and school board meetings; be a part of professional organizations which provide professional growth in the area of transportation; and maintain good rapport with all transportation stakeholders of the school systemHandle any or other duties assigned by the Superintendent and/or the Assistant Superintendent

    Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

    Work in standard office and school building environmentsDrive a school bus when requiredManage a high stress work load that includes supervising multiple employees and multiple routesQualifications Profile (Preferred)Completion of a master's degree or higher in Education LeadershipMinimum of five years' experience in school transportationManagement/administrative experience in transportation or other logistical fieldHold a valid Georgia Vehicle License (Required)Hold a Georgia Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brakes, the Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsementsExperience in developing a budget and managing personnelProficiency in administrative technologyKnowledge and/or experience using routing systemsStrong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
