Material Handler at Cement Terminal
Reports to:
Terminal Manager
Shift:
Rotates every 2 months: 2am-10am, then switches to 9am-5pm
Pay:
$20/hour+

The Material Handler at the cement terminal is responsible for the safe unloading of cement from rail cars, movement of railcars using track mobile/shuttle wagon, minor plant/equipment maintenance/lubrication and general upkeep and housekeeping of the facility and grounds.
What you'll be contributing:
- Unloads rail cars and performs railcar movements (empty and full) on the property to maximize the efficiency of the unloading process and minimize the risk of demurrage.
- Maintain mobile equipment in proper operating condition, including checks on tire inflation, brakes, water and oil pressure.
- Lubricates various mobile equipment and terminal machinery.
- Operates a skid steer/bobcat, utility vehicle and track mobile/shuttle wagon.
- Perform preventative maintenance checks and services.
- Performs housekeeping of terminal, equipment, and overall workplace
- Visually inspects equipment and machinery to ensure proper operation or identify any needed repairs
- Provides backup for lead position and crosstrains to learn these duties. Cross train to load and ticket trucks.
- Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
- Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
- High school graduation or equivalent is required.
- Ability to read, write and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.
- Willingness to learn, training will be provided.
- Good communication skills (verbal and written) in English and over a radio
- Ability to read and communicate in English with fellow employees, railroad representatives, drivers, and customers.
- Knowledge of hazards associated with areas of responsibility. Must understand lockout procedure and safety requirement. Excellent personal safety record and commitment to safe work practice.
- Operate railcar mover (shuttle wagon/track mobile)
- Manual dexterity to use air, electrical, and hand tools such as chipping guns, jackhammers, wrenches, grinders, and drills of all sizes
- Strong verbal communication, analytical, and mechanical skills
- Excellent work ethic high standard of performance and production
What to expect in a cement environment:
Work to be performed in a shop environment as well as outdoor exposure throughout the plant. Mild exposure to cement dust, heat, cold, and noise requires compliance with specified safety guidelines and procedures. Exposure to high elevations of up to 250 feet in height. Exposure to all weather conditions. Normal operation of mobile equipment may result in jarring and vibratory exposure.
