- Complete assigned cataloging and processing projects for new and existing collections daily
- Contribute to growing our collections management database, PastPerfect, and use them to complete archival processes and tracking
- Contribute to ongoing metadata and transcription projects on Ohio Memory using ContentDM.
- Provide occasional information request services for remote or in-person researchers via email, phone, and in the Reading Room.
- Contribute to the annual inventory initiative for archive, object, and library collections.
- Must be enrolled in an academic program OR a recent graduate from an academic program (within one year)
- Majors in in museum studies, public history, history, or other area of the humanities OR equivalent work experience in a related field. It can be challenging for candidates to earn the degrees or acquire the experience required for the position. Additional years of related work experience or additional related degree programs or trainings will be accepted in lieu of the degree or experience requirements
- Knowledge of museum best practices and procedures.
- Experience in object handling, processing, cataloging, and housing
- Works well both independently and with and in support of colleagues to complete work.
- Demonstrates a potential to communicate well in written and verbal communications, including informal mediums like email and meetings.

Position: Fall Internship - National Afro American Museum & Cultural Center Archives
Type: Unpaid Internship
Schedule: Part-time, unpaid position from Monday, September 9, 2024- December 6, 2024

About Ohio History Connection:
The Ohio History Connection, formerly the Ohio Historical Society, is a statewide history organization with the mission to spark discovery of Ohio's stories. Chartered in 1885, the OHC carries out history services for Ohio and its citizens focused on preserving and sharing the state's history. This includes housing the state historic preservation office, the official state archives, local history office and managing more than 50 sites and museums across Ohio.
Summary:
The NAAMCC Archives Intern is a professional development program designed to provide the opportunity for hands-on educational projects in a museum environment. The work will focus on document and photograph collections in the Archive Collection at the National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center. This intern will learn best practices related to archives management, processing, metadata, and research requests. The Archives Intern will learn and apply organizational and professional standards for ethics, cultural responsiveness, and equity.

Work Environment:
Work typically takes place in quiet, temperature-controlled office environment and collections storage facility. Some outside work required to move collections or travel between NAAMCC buildings. Some work may take place in unregulated buildings at Ohio History Connection sites or other buildings outside of the institution, usually no more than five times per year.
Physical Demands:
Daily work requires a combination of sitting in an office; working at a computer; sitting in meetings; and standing, lifting, and bending to carry objects or boxes. Occasional driving to attend events or meetings at the Ohio History Center and longer trips to visit sites may be required.
