ABOUT THIS POSITION:

The Law Department consists of three divisions: The City Attorney's Office, The City Prosecutor's Office, and Management Services. The Legal Assistant Unit (LAU) in the City Prosecutor's Office has a vacancy for an Evidence Redaction Aide. The Prosecutor's Office prosecutes misdemeanor crimes that occur within the City of Phoenix.

Some examples of these crimes are:
DUI, domestic violence, shoplifting, indecent exposure, threats, criminal damage, and trespassing.

The LAU collaborates with criminal staff attorneys to prepare a case by conducting legal research, obtaining facts or evidence needed, and researching the criminal history of defendants, allowing the Prosecutor to present this information at sentencing to the court.

The Evidence Redaction Aide in the LAU is responsible for various duties to include:

  • Performing digital redaction of documents and audio/video recordings, including body worn camera footage, in compliance with Arizona Law and Court Rules.
  • Reviewing audio/video and preparing notes on factual content, flagging probative footage for further review by a paralegal or attorney.
  • Processing evidentiary documents for cases.
  • Retrieving, sorting, and distributing material.
  • Contacting victims and witnesses; and working on a variety of projects and other duties as assigned.
This work is performed to assist attorney staff in prosecuting cases.

Work is performed under the general direction of an Administrative Assistant I or Legal Assistant Supervisor who evaluates performance based upon results.

SALARY:


Pay Range:
$19.54 to $35.08 per hour.

Hiring Range:
$19.54 to $28.86 per hour.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Four years of experience performing clerical duties.
  • OR Bachelor's degree in public or business administration or a related field.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

  • Experience with:
  • Legal terminology and the criminal justice process.
  • Rules of Court, Evidence, Discovery and Victims' Rights.
  • Investigative and interviewing techniques and procedures.
  • Redaction Software experience (audio/video).
  • Ability to speak Spanish is desirable.
