Summary:
VCU Athletics is seeking a Director of Sports Performance for our Women's Basketball.
The chief purpose of the Director of Sports Performance for Women's Basketball is to ensure that student-athletes are in good physical health and provide them with the tools to develop and optimize their athletic capabilities.
Reporting to the Deputy Director of Athletics, the Director of Sports Performance for Women's Basketball works to further VCU Athletics' mission to win conference and national championships, provide a first-class student-athlete experience, serve as a source of pride for the University and community, and cultivate graduates who excel as leaders.
-Typical Duties
- Develop and implement programs for, but not limited to, strength, conditioning, nutrition, mobility and speed for NCAA Division I women's basketball studentathletes to prepare them for competition in local, regional, and national arenas;
- Ensure the minimization of risk and severity of potential injuries through appropriate program design;
- Create and direct basketballspecific speed, quickness, and agility workouts;
- Collaborate with medical professionals to rehabilitate studentathletes following any injuries;
- Screen studentathletes for movement limitations and imbalances;
- Instruction on the safe and correct execution of flexibility, plyometrics, Olympic lifts, and speed development exercises;
- Maintain safe and effective equipment;
- Knowledge of emergency procedures, including CPR and first aid; and
- Seek and utilize feedback from women's basketball coaches as appropriate to continually improve sports performance program.
- Understanding of NCAA allowable supplementation rules, i.e., vitamins, supplements, etc.;
- Recognition of the symptoms and behaviors of studentathletes who may be using illegal performanceenhancing substances; and
- Work with Nutritionist to implement yearround nutritional programs for studentathletes
Typical Education and Experience
Minimum hiring standards include:
- Bachelor's degree;
- Minimum of two (2) years' experience at the NCAA Division I level;
- Willingness and ability to work flexible hours which includes nights, weekends, and overnight travel;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a multitasking environment, with a strong sense of principles and ethics in regard to the welfare of studentathletes; and
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
- Advanced degree or training & experience equivalent to an advanced degree;
- Strength & conditioning experience with the sport of women's basketball; and
- Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association OR National Strength & Conditioning Associate (NSCA) certification.
- Current CPR/AED/First Aid certification; and
- Valid driver's license.
