- Perform venous, carotid, aortic, and arterial duplex examinations according to approved protocols.
- Assess the appropriateness of exams using ICD 9 codes and symptoms, consult the physician of possible discrepancies, and modify the exam with referring physician approval.
- Review, evaluate and quantify exam findings based on normal and abnormal values for vascular morphology and physiology with consideration of technical and exam limitations for the purpose of physician interpretation.
- Document and prepare patient records for review and interpretation by physician, including the selection, recording, and cross-referencing of significant or representative studies.
- Selects and operates equipment as required.
- Maintains accurate patient records with regard to evaluation results.
- Maintains equipment to assure conformance with operational standards.
- Performs clerical support when needed including reception duties, patient scheduling, inventory of department supplies and file maintenance.
- Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.
- Reports directly to the Manager, Radiology
- Knowledge of principles and procedures of hemodynamic procedures, routine equipment maintenance and medical terminology normally acquired through completion of a formal accredited school in Vascular Ultrasound/Technology.
- ARDMS Certification as a Registered Vascular Technician (RVT) or RVT eligible. RVT exam must be successfully completed within 1 year of hire.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to deal with patients who may be under physical and/or emotional stress in order to promote good customer relations.
- Interpersonal skills for working with all levels of health care workers.
- Ability to analyze situations, identify problems and plan courses of action in concert with the philosophy and objectives of the department.
- Ability to transfer and position patients, consistent with lifting up to 35 lbs.
- Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
- Occasional exposure to infectious disease when working with patients.

Job Description Summary
The Vascular Technician will perform a variety of exams to assess patients for pathology of the veins and arteries in the body other than the heart.
These exams may incorporate a variety of methodology including color Doppler, pulsed wave Doppler and B-mode ultrasound, together with a history and physical exam.
