    BOA Editions, Ltd., is a nationally celebrated, Rochester-based not-for-profit publisher of poetry and other literary works. The publishing house will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2026.

    We are a small office (3 full-time staff) of individuals committed to our mission and to publishing the best poetry and literature in the country.

    Director of Development & Publicity

    General Purpose:
    The Director of Development & Publicity reports to the

    Publisher/Executive


    Director and is responsible for all BOA duties related to development and fundraising campaigns as well as publicity in support of the publication of all BOA titles.

    Development


    Submit annual grant applications to the NEA, NYSCA, Monroe County, Ames-Amzalak Memorial Trust, Mary S. Mulligan Charitable Trust, and others that may be identified as having funding potential for BOA.


    Submit additional grant proposals on an as-needed basis or when opportunities arise.



    Manage all aspects of grants received including the requesting of funds, adherence to grant guidelines, mid-period and final reports, and changes of scope.


    Maintain active and qualified registrations with the Grants Gateway, , and SAM (System for Award Management).

    Requirements include communicating with financial manager to ensure organizational information, audits, tax returns, board lists, etc. are up-to-date.

    BOA must have active registrations with all of these entities in order to apply for Federal and State funding and to enter into business with and receive funds from government entities.


    Research public funding and private foundations to identify additional sources of funding.



    Design, implement and manage all current fundraising activities including Dine & Rhyme, the Annual Campaign, and special projects such as Major Gift Campaigns.


    Investigate new opportunities and collaborations to increase BOA's individual funding base and cultivate new donor relationships.


    Coordinate the creation of the colophon page for BOA books; follow-through with colophon book mailings to donors.


    Maintain a comprehensive donor database.


    Research and identify potential sources of earned income.
    Publicity/PR


    Work closely with authors to construct a unique publicity plan for each titles.


    Maintain/grow all promotional mail and email lists: Reviewer, Catalog, Academic, Contest, etc.


    Coordinate with authors to pitch events for new titles (book tours, readings, and festivals).


    Field all review and desk copy requests. Follow up with key reviewers as needed.


    Submit weekly publicity update to CBSD marketing team and sales reps.


    Manage all organizational PR, including: writing and sending press releases/media alerts for BOA news, awards, and events.


    Maintain author event calendar on BOA's website (with help from authors and webmaster).


    Coordinate and manage all social media advertising according to the allotted budget.


    Design and manage fundraising events pages and forms (Dine & Rhyme, Annual Campaign) on the BOA website.



    Manage BOA website, blog, and online bookstore, including design, content, product pages, book sales, and promotional campaigns; use appropriate methods and techniques to boost BOA's SEO, SERP rate, and web presence.

    Provide assistance and support to Director of Production in their work to conceptualize, design, write copy for, edit, and print all in-house collateral such as marketing one-sheets, multi-page seasonal catalogs, and dual-sided brochures.


    Manage and update all social media accounts associated with BOA, including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram. Stay abreast of new and emerging social platforms that can benefit BOA.


    Coordinate giveaways and new title promotions on social media.



    Handle all correspondences with followers, promote audience engagement and growth, and actively seek out new opportunities for organizational growth within these platforms.



    Strategize social media content and campaigns with weekly, monthly, and annual calendars; manage all campaigns and designated hash tags associate with events, anniversaries, titles, etc.


    Regularly monitor social media analytics: reach data, engagement, page views, likes/follows, etc.


    Track literary award submission calendar and submit new titles for eligible awards.
    Special Events/Conferences

    Coordinate special events, including BOA's presence at AWP and other book conferences.


    Promote fundraisers, readings, sales, and special events through sending press releases/media alerts to local media outlets, submitting event details to relevant calendars, and creating email/social media announcements and reminders prior to the event.


    Make an annual list of authors attending AWP with details for

    readings/panels/events

    for promotion.

    Coordinate the design and production of all printed materials for events, fundraising, etc. when working with a freelance graphic designer.
