    Criminal Investigator I at the Office of the Georgia Secretary of State

    Reporting to the Investigations Area Supervisor, the Criminal Investigator I is responsible for conducting criminal, civil, and administrative investigations within the authority of the Office of the Georgia Secretary of State.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Perform challenging criminal and administrative investigations for the Office of the Secretary of State.
    • Support enforcement initiatives of the Office of the Secretary of State and collaborating boards.
    • Enforce relevant Georgia statutes, policies, and board rules.
    • Investigate alleged violations of laws and regulations at various levels.
    • Conduct thorough investigations and prepare comprehensive reports.
    • Prepare detailed reports on investigative findings and recommended actions.
    • Analyze records to establish connections in evidence chains.
    • Identify case issues and evidence requirements based on charge analysis.
    • Collaborate with state, local, and federal agencies on pertinent cases.
    • Work with other authorities on tasks like surveillance and research.
    • Gather and validate evidence through interviews, observations, and record analysis.
    • Conduct background checks as necessary.
    • Provide testimony in legal proceedings.
    • Maintain POST in-service training for certification.
    • Statewide travel may be necessary.
    • Perform assigned related duties.

    Three (3) years' experience in law enforcement or a related field is required. Possession of Peace Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) (PBLE) certification in Georgia, a valid driver's license, and being 21 years or older and a U.S. citizen with strong moral character is mandatory.

    EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: High school diploma or equivalent completion. An associate degree with three years of relevant experience, a bachelor's degree with one year of relevant experience, or three years of directly related experience are accepted. Alternatively, one year of equivalent experience at a lower level may be considered. Note: Some roles may require a valid driver's license or POST certification eligibility.
