    Georgia Capitol Police Officer

    Location: Capitol Police Division- Capitol Hill- Atlanta (Fulton County)

    Salary: $ 48,843/non- post certified (Cadet)-----$63,216/post certified (CPO1)

    The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) oversees the day-to-day operation of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). We currently have a challenging and rewarding opportunity for Capitol Police Officers with the Capitol Police Division.

    The Capitol Police Division(CPD) consists of sworn law enforcement officers who have the primary responsibility of protecting life and property, preventing, and detecting criminal acts, and enforcing traffic regulations throughout Capitol Hill. This includes the apprehension of criminals, traffic enforcement and protection of public and building security in the Capitol Hill area. Capitol Police Officers performs a full range of assigned law enforcement duties to maintain security and order in the Capitol Hill area or other sector.

    CAPITOL POLICE OFFICER CAREER PATH SALARIES (effective July 1, 2024) :

  • Capitol Police Officer 1 : POST Certified-$63,216
  • Capitol Police Officer 2- $66,798
  • Capitol Police Officer 3- $73,549
  • Senior CPO- $76,452
  • Master CPO- $79,501
  • This position is perfect for candidates who seek a challenging opportunity to serve the citizens of the State of Georgia while protecting the grounds of Capitol Hill and the surrounding area.

    A typical workday includes, but is not limited to:

    · Apprehends criminal suspects and turns over to local jurisdiction for booking or incarceration

    · Coordinates with the Georgia State Patrol and adjacent law enforcement jurisdictions

    · Directs traffic during special events

    · Enforces traffic laws in assigned sector

    · Guards and monitors buildings

    · Investigates criminal activity in sector

    · Provides security for events in sector

    NOTE: The DPS Uniform and Appearance Policy has changed to allow applicants with some visible tattoos in a short sleeve uniform shirt to wear a long sleeve shirt.

    Applicants with tattoos or brands will be disqualified for either of the following:

  • Tattoos/brands that depict or support criminal behavior, drug usage, nudity, profanity, promiscuity, subversive groups, bigotry, etc.
  • Tattoos/brands on the neck, face, head, hands, and fingers that are visible while on duty and/or in a long sleeve uniform shirt. Tattoos on the arm must not be below the crease of the wrist. Exceptions include tattoos/brands that are covered by one ring per hand, or by a watch band on either the left or right wrist. Uniform members with tattoos visible in a short sleeve uniform shirt (generally, below the crease of the arm and tip of the elbow) will wear the class A uniform (long sleeve shirt).
  • Minimum Qualifications :

    Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, possess a valid driver's license, be a citizen of the United States, and possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Applicants who are not POST certified in Georgia will be sent to a regional academy for their POST requirements.

    Applicants must complete the panel interview, background/polygraph investigation, medical/psychological evaluations and meet other requirements for certification as a peace officer set by the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST).

    Preferred Qualifications :

    One year of sworn or non-sworn law enforcement experience or one year of college is preferred.

    Medical Standards : Vision: minimum vision of 20/100 uncorrected in each eye, and corrected to 20/40 or better in both eyes with glasses or contact lenses. Additional medical standards must be met prior to final offer of employment.

    Physical Fitness Standards : The Physical Fitness Program is an evaluation based on the recommendation of the Cooper's Institute in terms of absolute standards (same job = same standard). These standards are reflective of the minimum fitness level an individual must possess to perform their job regardless of their age or gender.
