    Position Overview:

    The Business Manager for Surgical Services helps to oversee business operations for Surgical Services. They coordinate and conduct ongoing analysis (business and operational) and interpretation of program data to identify areas of opportunity. They are expected to communicate key findings and trends to surgical services leadership. Responsible to collaborate on new business plan development and ongoing analysis and interpretation of program data and identifying service related issues as required, providing detailed reports with cost analysis. Coordinates and leads planning sessions to develop the future goals and objectives. Responsible for working with revenue cycle and finance to review revenue cycle health and operating margins as well as to coordinate with surgical teams and leadership to predict future volumes.

    What you'll do:

    • Under the direction of surgical & procedural services leaders, supports business owners in the analysis and identification of opportunities for business and performance improvement.
    • Assist Surgical Services leadership and administrative leaders in professional and business departments to compile, organize, display, and provide useful operational and financial data in support of operational needs which includes: budget review & development, revenue capture, cost savings, department fiscal responsibility
    • Assists in department as needed with improvement initiatives, information systems, business planning and capital budget preparation.
    • Works closely with Financial Management, Cost Accounting, Medical Records, Revenue Management, Pharmacy, Business Offices, and Service Line Administrators to find opportunities that will result in surgical cost reduction and/or increased insurance reimbursements while maintaining high quality patient care
    • Provides input to Materials Management that identifies pricing opportunities and cost savings relative to specific surgical procedures and surgeons
    • Provides requesters with an accurate understanding of financial, clinical, and operational data relative to Surgical Services, identifying appropriate sources for strategic planning, business development, and physician activity
    • Understands all available reports and analytical tools to provide financial analysis, reviews, and presentations to other business partners and senior leadership
    • Has a working knowledge of medical coding, health insurance requirements and reimbursement, and materials management practices
    • Initiates and manages new projects that support key department initiatives that support efficiency and effectiveness, revenue generation, and LEAN/Standard work.
    • Analyzes various reports for the impact of the actual and/or proposed operational changes in meeting Surgical Services initiatives/goals.
    • Creates, analyzes and presents monthly statistics, including physician and Perioperative dashboards /scorecards.
    • Researches, validates, analyzes, and produces actionable data that is accurate and easily understood by the requestor.
    • Through the compilation and analysis of relevant financial data, the business manager will help leadership define and support a growth strategy for the surgical services at all sites of service. Strategy will include assisting leadership determine site of service for procedures by providing relevant data about reimbursement and cost at various sites of service
    • Analyzes the data related to business and operational performance improvement metrics and consults with stakeholders on opportunities for improvement.
    • Investigates statistics to support equipment requests and monitors all contracts within the service line to be sure that the appropriate budgets are forecasted.
    • Collaborates with department leadership on ensuring the effective operation of the Department's purchasing activities.
    • Assists with inventory management processes to minimize waste and lost revenue.
    • Collaborate with physician/vendor management team to ensure products are vetted through Surgical Value Analysis team process to evaluate cost and clinical need
    • Ensure vendors are complaint with HHC Standards, holding individuals accountable for timely delivery of services.
    • Support cost savings initiatives in collaboration with perioperative team will work on Initiatives and overall cost savings and revenue capture.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Business Management/Administration

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Master's degree
    • Familiarity with the day to day functions and processes of procedure based areas, as well as a robust understanding of how ongoing operational decisions affect finances in a healthcare environment
    • Experience in a business healthcare environment preferred. Four years of job-related experience in the healthcare industry recommended
    • Must be skilled in TEAMS, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat. Must have high level Excel skills. Experience in EPIC preferred
