    Job Description and Duties

    Exam Information

    To obtain list eligibility for this classification, before applying for the position(s), you must first take and pass the Personnel Specialist Exam.

    Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s).

    **CDCR Employees are encouraged to use their existing CDCR email address on their application.

    *Limited term 12 months; may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent

    Under general supervision of either the Personnel Supervisor II and/or the Personnel Supervisor I, the Personnel Specialist (PS) applies laws, rules and regulations concerning personnel transactions, payroll, benefits and various documents. Independently interprets reference materials and follows oral and written directions. The PS communicates with employees, both verbally and in writing, of their entitlements. The PS is required to use various computer systems. The PS maintains personnel records including but not limited to the Official Personnel File, Garnishment files, and disability type files. The PS is responsible for all phases of the Personnel transactions for an assigned group of employees and will work with minimal supervision.

    STATEMENT OF QUALIFICATIONS

    **Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. If you are meeting Minimum Qualifications with education, you must include your unofficial transcripts/diploma for verification. Official transcripts may be required upon appointment. If it is determined an applicant does not meet the Minimum Qualifications, the candidate will be withheld from the eligibility list, rendering them inactive and ineligible to be hired for the position. Candidates who have been withheld may file an appeal with the State Personnel Board.

    **Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.

    Pursuant to the Public Health Orders ( and ) issued by the California Department of Public Health and the directive issued by the Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation (CDCR), all staff assigned to this post/position may be required to show evidence of full vaccination and booster for COVID-19, absent an approved reasonable medical or religious accommodation precluding them from vaccination.
