Position Summary:
Performs broad-impact financial analysis, reporting, and systems development for the university. Assist in the design and implementation of financial/accounting/budget systems and reports- approximately $350M. Analyzes historical accounting data and other information to make projections which will aid management in short- and long-range financial planning. Analyzes financial statements and prepares and analyzes financial reports to represent current and projected financial status.
Projects future trends and prepares long-range operational forecasts and cash flow analysis. Assists in preparing, developing, and monitoring budgets. Assists with revenue cycle needs, business plans, analyzes data, and creates ad hoc and periodic reports. Makes recommendations relating to the impact of financial transactions on budget and operations. Reconciles accounts and advises managers of significant variances and changes on a timely basis. Assists in quarterly and annual fiscal year close and budget preparation, and quarterly variance reporting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Contributes to the development of the College's annual budget and to monitoring the budget on a routine basis.
Compiles and analyzes financial information from all components of the organizational entity, and develops integrated revenue/expense analyses, projections, reports, and presentations.
Coordinates, compiles, and analyzes annual financial statements for the organization and its component units, utilizing complex spreadsheet and database applications.
Analyzes, designs, documents, and implements internal financial reporting systems and procedures for the organization or business entity.
Develops and administers annual capital and operating budgets; serves as budget advisor to management and monitors budget compliance.
Designs, coordinates, and implements training programs for personnel within the organization and its components regarding the nature and application operating policies and procedures.
Prepares worksheets and gathers key data to inform budget process.
Contributes to the budget submission, updating entries into the University's budget tool, and helps with the reconciliation of that information to the College's internal budget planning model. Reviews the University's COB (consolidated operating budget) reports and contributing to variance analysis.
Processes journal entries for monthly, quarterly, and year-end close
Meets with customers routinely to obtain information and to understand their reporting needs to make any necessary budget adjustments.
Supports the financial reporting and analysis for a specific program or designated set of financial activities within the College.
Learns the business and operations of a designated program or set of financial activities.
Initiates transactions for relevant set of financial activities.
Reconciles monthly financial statements and analyzing budget variance reports; together with the Director, meets regularly with relevant stakeholders to review year-to-date activity and identifies trends that will impact the budget plans for future periods. Prepares reports regarding financial activity as needed.
Updates and reconciles complex financial and budgetary spreadsheets. Tracks expenditures and/or payments ensuring they are posted to proper accounts.
Create new general ledger codes.
Assists with analysis of financial information and/or the preparation of regular and ad hoc financial reports at the direction of the Director and senior members of the Finance Team
Performs other related duties, assignments, and/or special projects as assigned.
Education/Experience:
Requires a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance or equivalent plus 1-3 years' financial or budgetary experience.
Comprehensive computer experience in Microsoft Excel and Word
Experience in a higher education or non-profit sector preferred.
Prefer experience with Colleague.
Knowledge Skills, and Abilities:
Communicate effectively to all groups through both oral and written channels.
Maintaining strict confidentiality and attention to detail are essential.
Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint
Demonstrate tact, a positive attitude, courtesy, and discretion in dealing with Cabinet members, deans, faculty, staff, and students.
Work independently as well as function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people.
Exercise independent judgment in complex and new situations.
Manage multiple, concurrent projects, and meet strict deadlines.
