Part-Time Choir Director Job Description

A Part-Time Choir Director at American Preparatory Academy in Mokena will be responsible for leading and directing choirs for elementary and junior high school students. This role will involve directing a 5th-grade choir of approximately 60 students and two levels of junior high choir with up to 20 students in each. The position also includes teaching a leadership class using provided curriculum.

Educational

  • Lead weekly rehearsals for the 5th-grade choir, focusing on vocal technique, music theory, and performance skills.
  • Direct two levels of junior high choir, providing instruction in vocal techniques, sight-reading, ensemble singing, and musical interpretation.
  • Plan and conduct engaging and age-appropriate choir performances throughout the school year, including concerts, competitions, and community events.
  • Ensure equitable delivery of the American Preparatory Academy curriculum to all students.
  • Adhere to the American Preparatory Academy Staff Manual.
  • Follow the 180-day plan for their grade level or subject level, and update the plan annually to allow for data-driven improvements.
  • Communicate knowledge to students in an interesting, stimulating, and effective manner.
