    Sentara is currently seeking a Patient Care Technician to join the team at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital on the Surgery Unit 4 East.

    Hours/Shift:

    Full-time, night shift. From 7pm to 7am

    Department/Position Overview:

    Be part of a unit known for its exceptional teamwork. This general med/surg unit fosters strong collaboration within the nursing team, primarily serving surgical patients.

    As a Patient Care Technician at Sentara, you will have the chance to acquire new skills, from vital signs to blood collection and daily patient care.

    The main responsibilities of this role include supporting the admission/discharge process, assisting with patient hygiene, mobility, and other needs under the direct supervision of a nurse.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Preferred one year of prior healthcare experience.
    • American Health Associate BLS Certification required within 90 days of hire.
    • High School Diploma or Equivalent and one of the following:
    • Sentara Care Partner Certification Program
    • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
    • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)
    • National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT)
    • Completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School
    • Emergency Services experience
    • Current enrollment in a clinical program or recent work experience as a PCT or Nursing Assistant.

    Job Summary

    Patient Care Technicians support professional nurses in delivering delegated aspects of patient care. They assist with patient care, admissions, discharge processes, and adhere to safety practices under nurse supervision.

    Observe and report changes in patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions.

    Safety Partners undergo de-escalation and physical intervention training as required.

    Acceptable education programs include Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, CNA, NCMA, NCPCT, US Navy Hospital Corps School, Emergency Services experience, clinical program enrollment, or recent work as a PCT or Nursing Assistant. Preferred one year of healthcare experience and BLS certification within 90 days of hire.

    Qualifications:

    High School Grad or Equivalent (Required), BLS Certification, CPCT/A Certification
