Angela Trotter

Over 20 years of acute care nursing, establishing a rapport with patients and communicating with families and doctors, managing patient plans of care from the ICU, to home and long-term care.  I am ready to turn to the next chapter of my career by focusing on patient health and wellness education.  Teaching positive outcome discharge plans; as well as, feasible wellness plans consisting of accessing medical and community resources. 

 My professional experience started with a bachelor of science degree in physical education from the University of Houston.  I also minored in social studies.  I taught girls and boys school-aged athletics as well as managed a women's health and fitness center for a decade.  In the 1990s, I pursued my second career in nursing by obtaining a nursing degree from Lee College in Baytown TX.  After graduating, I left my home state of Texas and came to the State of Virginia.  I started my nurse internship at Inova Fairfax Hospital in the intermediate-pulmonary care unit. This is where I learned most of my critical care experience by floating to the different ICUs for 7 years. I also was able to acquire extensive crisis/terrorist interventions from the 911 incident and the anthrax-bioterrorism incident. Afterward, I began travel nursing working in ICU and step-down units for another 7 years.  In the Texas Medical Center- St. Joseph Hospital- where I learned my first Crisis Prevention interventions from the hospital shooting. In the years 2017 and 2018, I decided to work with chronically ill patients in long-term and home health.  This is where I was able to enhance my time management and prioritize nursing interventions.  I was also introduced to the OASIS and ICD-9 documentation in home healthcare.  I really enjoyed conversing with patients and family members.  There were families that made me feel like part of the family.  At the end of 2018, I relocated back to Virginia where I currently reside.  I have been mainly working on travel assignments for step-down and progressive units.  I am at another crossroads in my nursing career.  I have the desire to continue teaching and planning in healthcare remotely or in an office.  

The most relevant education to the positions I am seeking is life's education.  The healthcare field is a multi-faceted system. I have learned how to maneuver my way through this broad system as a patient, teacher, professional, parent, family member (with lost loved ones), friend, and community volunteer. I am a candidate who has experienced all of the above and then some.  A journey through life with a road of curves, exits, and stops.  Learning and teaching a variety of cultures with a smile on my face, has required a balance of body, mind, and spirit.  Working on a team requires one to play a strong position; then stepping in to help coworkers when needed takes perseverance so the whole team can reap the benefits of accomplishments. I am a team player to work with a sense of urgency and efficacy which working in the labor force has taught me.
