    Honors Program Coordinator - Ogden, United States - Weber State University

    Default job background
    Description
    Introduction
    The coordinator is central to the fulfillment of the Honors Program mission, with primary responsibilities including:

    Representation & Communication
    The coordinator actively participates in strategic planning retreats and in weekly staff meetings. The coordinator represents the program by serving on various committees and task-forces. The coordinator interacts with a variety of constituents to develop and support program initiatives.

    The coordinator also communicates regularly with students and faculty to plan and organize events, to create and monitor initiatives, and to develop collaborative relationships between Honors and other campus offices, especially those in USASIE.

    The coordinator interacts with faculty and students to facilitate effective support in teaching and learning.

    The coordinator works with the director in authoring sections of various annual reports, a task that also entails keeping and maintaining records and files.

    Advising
    The coordinator works closely and recursively with over 600 students across 3 Honors pathways, including Foundation, University, and Departmental.

    This labor-intensive but critical work involves a host of duties, including mentoring and guiding students from the point of first-contact through to degree completion.

    The coordinator designs and disseminates information to students, other campus advisors, program administrators, and faculty about a complex range of services and opportunities.

    The coordinator prioritizes an equitable practice of delivering services to diverse students.

    This involves not only communicating clearly and regularly with students but also being broadly informed about different high-impact opportunities, from travel to research to funding, across campus.

    Aside from regular face-to-face communication and online correspondence with students, the coordinator must know a host of campus personnel and services and establish strong working relationships.

    In the accomplishment of advising duties, the coordinator will:

    monitor and follow-up with students regarding Starfish progress checks and flags;

    advocate on behalf of students for funding and academic opportunities;

    maintain program standards by continually reviewing student progress against requirements;

    maintain accurate, current, and confidential records;

    participate in a culture of innovation by researching and proposing programmatic initiatives that continually improve the student experience;

    implement practices for equitable and inclusive recruitment, engagement, and retention;

    intervene and refer students when they are in situations of crisis, including cases of domestic abuse, sexual assault or harassment, mental health crisis, housing and food insecurity, and emergency financial need;

    facilitate the Outstanding Faculty and Students in Honors awards each semester;

    communicate with and facilitate events with the Honors Program senator.

    First-Year Programming

    The coordinator advises all students in the program, from freshmen to seniors, but will focus energy particularly on first-time Honors students.

    First-year programming, as a means for improved retention, marks a critical new line of operations in the program.

    The coordinator is responsible for working closely with this cohort by communicating the vision of Honors to students, by disseminating information about the pathway options, and by enrolling students in the Adobe portfolio platform.

    Additionally, the coordinator plans future advising sessions with students at critical junctures in their experience.

    The coordinator administers an entrance survey at the point of enrollment, maintains these records, and presents them during staff discussions aimed at continually improving operations within the program.

    Further, the coordinator administers to each graduating student an exit survey. These duties significantly advance a culture in the program that values and prioritizes data in decision-making.

    Recruitment & Retention

    The coordinator plans, organizes, and enacts an effective vision of recruitment and retention efforts through authentic, inclusive forms of belonging for all students.

    All recruitment efforts integrate with retention and advising efforts for a comprehensive, holistic approach.

    The coordinator demonstrates knowledge of current, emerging trends in recruitment and retention efforts in higher-education and in Honors specific settings.

    The coordinator is informed regarding current research in best practices related to intercultural competencies, an area of expertise that aligns with and advances key campus outcomes related to the diminishment of barriers and achievement gaps.

    The coordinator works closely with the director and the staff admin to recruit and retain traditionally underrepresented students. The coordinator supervises efforts by the part-time staff member to recruit from local high schools.

    Marketing & Media
    The coordinator produces high-quality marketing and media materials for a variety of purposes and audiences.

    The coordinator designs all Honors Program course posters, manages all social media accounts, creates videos and other promotion items, and maintains a current archive of these materials.

    Crucially, the coordinator also maintains and develops the Honors Program webpage.

    Supervision & Management
    The coordinator is an immediate reference point when the director is unavailable. Further, the coordinator will supervise and delegate tasks to part-time staff and/or student workers. The coordinator will keep the director informed as to any staffing issues.
