Description
Develops strategies for and oversees the implementation of internal and external communications to promote the objectives and interests of the University, including public relations, media relations and marketing communications.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Provides overall leadership for internal and external communications across the institution.
Works with leadership to help address communication needs for enrollment marketing strategies.
Provides assistance, as needed, for the University's marketing initiatives.
Supervises, creates, prepares, reviews, publishes, and distributes communications (including news releases, feature stories, photographs, newsletters, magazines, etc.) and other materials concerning campus news, events, initiatives, accomplishments and activities (including those of the administration, faculty, staff, students and alumni).
Acts as spokesperson / media contact for the University; responds to inquiries from the news media; develops contacts/relationships with media outlets; supervises preparation of news conferences and other news events; designates spokesperson responsibilities and media contact as needed.
Oversees the University's online presence and distribution of news.Develops, manages and implements the University's Crisis Communication Plan.
Provides advice and assistance to the campus, including the Board of Trustees, President, executive leadership, the YSU Foundation and other University personnel, on communications, public relations and media relations issues.
Plans and oversees the implementation of communication strategies for the university and conducts regular consultations with departments/colleges/administration regarding communication strategy.
Prepares, writes, and distributes materials for the President and executive leadership.Supervises staff, graduate interns and/or graduate assistants and student employees; assigns and reviews work; establishes timeframes for the completion of assigned tasks; trains and orients new employees; approves/disapproves requests for paid leaves; interviews candidates for employment and recommends hiring; evaluates employee work performance; receives and responds to grievances; provides assistance with the development of departmental work procedures and policies.
Oversees and administers departmental budget and plans application of resources.Manages the production of the University's alumni magazine, both print and online editions, including but not limited to: planning each issue; working with the creative services team to establish production schedules and deadlines; researching, assigning, writing and editing articles; working with the University videographer/photographer to identify video and photo needs.
Other Functions and Responsibilities:
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Equipment Operated:
Computer and all other standard office equipment.
Work Schedule:
Typically, M-T-W-Th-F 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Supervision Exercised:
Supervision to be exercised over staff and student employees.

Preferred Qualifications:
Related experience in higher education. Knowledge of local, state and national higher education issues. Knowledge of best practices for higher education marketing. Experience working with Adobe Creative Suite and web CMS.
