Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation Palo Alto, United States

    Default job background
    Description
Gordon and Betty Moore established the foundation to create positive outcomes for future generations.

Guided by this vision and the Statement of Founders' Intent , the foundation fosters path-breaking environmental conservation, scientific discovery, patient care improvements and preservation of the special character of the San Francisco Bay Area.

We strive to make significant and durable impacts on the world.

Together, we work to honor the vision of our founders and serve as stewards of the resources they have entrusted to us.

We establish specific strategies based on advice from experts, identify partners who share our goals and measure results along the way.

We build relationships and fund work in areas where we hope to make significant impacts; and we know that working together expands our ability to drive meaningful change.

We believe there can be no lasting change for the good if that change is not just and widely shared.

Comprehending and incorporating values of diversity, equity, and inclusion in pursuing goals and refining strategies is vital to achieving our desired outcomes.

These values weave through what we do and shape how we operate.

    The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled, experienced Technical Business Analyst to join our small technology solutions development team.

This is an opportunity to join a high performing team focused on maximizing the philanthropic impact of the organization and ensuring that the foundation's staff, grantees and partners can do their best work.

This role is critical to translating user requirements into business needs that shape our solutions roadmap.

You will collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to analyze processes, business needs, systems, and data to develop and deploy solutions that address business objectives.

As a Technical Business Analyst, you will elicit business needs and requirements from business units across the organization such as program, finance, and grants administration, turn them into detailed functional specifications, interface designs, and user stories.

You will project manage all aspects of solutions development including needs identification; requirements specification; application identification and configuration; end user testing; and ensuring readiness for deployment.

Solutions development may range from identifying a new solution to adding capabilities or new users to existing solutions. You will serve as the day-to-day project lead, managing the technical aspects of the solution and the internal/external team.

You will also evaluate technical feasibility and effort while prioritizing needs and collaborating closely with internal and/or external developers at every stage of the solutions lifecycle.

The Technical Business Analyst will participate in identifying potential applications, testing solutions and bug fixes prior to production implementation and ensure change management best practices.

To be successful in this role, you should have a strong technical aptitude coupled with excellent analytical, project management and communication skills.

We need someone who can bridge the gap between business goals and technical implementation—someone who can thrive in a highly ambiguous environment and drive consensus amongst diverse teams.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of both business and technical requirements, as well as experience leading complex projects.

This position reports to our Director of Information Technology and is based at our main office in Palo Alto, CA.

Under the foundation's residency policy and hybrid work arrangements, you must reside within a reasonable driving distance of the foundation's Palo Alto office, and you will be expected to work onsite a minimum of four days a month, the weeks of our May and November board meetings, and on periodic occasions throughout the year when foundation business needs require.

    In This Role You Will

Design, develop, and implement complex web applications and business systems.
Lead complex projects, including project management, execution, and delivery. Develop and manage overall project plans and teams for solutions development and deployment.
Translate business requirements into technical requirements, including user stories, functional specifications, and technical specifications.

As needed, collaborate with team members and other stakeholders to identify, evaluate and configure new applications to meet business needs and satisfy technical requirements.

Support deployment with end users, including end user testing.
Manage knowledge by developing end-user documentation, including user manuals, training materials, help documentation, and providing support to users.

Manage software integration projects, including identifying and assessing integration requirements, developing and implementing integration solutions, and testing and deploying integrated systems.

Collaborate with other team members and other subject matter experts to establish and support the technical vision and analyze tradeoffs between usability and performance needs.

Apply traditional technology knowledge to solve complex business problems.
Develop pseudo code, when appropriate, to document and communicate technical solutions to developers.
Model data/produce mockups to support business processes and systems.
    Prototype UI/UX designs.
Use business analysis and product management principles to develop and implement successful solutions.

Review and understand the foundation's business, policies, and processes, including the Approach to Philanthropy guide to tailor comprehensive enterprise solutions appropriately.

    Apply agile development methodologies.
A proactive rather than reactive mindset for producing a wide range of technology solutions.
Facilitate effective meetings including documenting and managing decisions and action items.

    Qualifications

What You Bring to the Foundation:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
7+ years of experience as a Technical Business Analyst.
Experience leading complex projects with demonstrated project management skills.

Demonstrated expertise in all aspects of solutions development and deployment including needs identification; requirements specification; application identification and configuration; end user testing; and deployment with end users.

Demonstrated expertise and experience in developing end-user documentation, technical writing, including user manuals, training materials, help documentation, and providing support to users.

Experience in solutions roll-out planning, management, and training.
Experience with software integration principles and concepts.
    Traditional technology background.
    Problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
Experience with pseudo code, data modeling, and UI/UX prototyping.
Experience with philanthropy and/or grants management a plus, but not required.
    Business analysis/product management experience.
    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

    Competencies

Growth mindset and willingness to learn complex new systems.
    Excellent verbal and written communicator.
Collaborative and professional, with proven success in partnering with internal and external partners.

A patient demeanor and can-do attitude.
    Fosters trust-based relationships.
    Responsible and reliable.
Self-starter who works well independently and in teams.

Willingness to support and promote the foundation and your colleagues through commitment to enhancing the foundation's considerations of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
