Job Overview
MassCEC seeks a detail-oriented, motivated and experienced candidate to oversee MassCEC's marketing efforts targeting Massachusetts residents and small building owners through our Clean Energy Lives Here campaign and adjacent High Performance Buildings programs.
Clean Energy Lives Here is a public education and awareness campaign that informs MA residents about decarbonized alternatives to fossil fuel-powered systems and appliances for their home and explains strategies for buying clean electricity.
In the coming year, MassCEC plans to launch content and advertising for renters and property owners, as well as increase our support of electric vehicle adoption by this audience.
Additionally, MassCEC is increasing the amount of Spanish-language content on the campaign website.The Marketing Manager for Residential Electrification will liaise between MassCEC staff, marketing and IT contractors, content creators, and other state agencies to evolve the content for Clean Energy Lives Here and report on campaign metrics.
The ideal candidate should be passionate about driving behavioral change to achieve Massachusetts' climate goals with a strong focus on promoting an equitable energy transition.
The Marketing Manager must demonstrate excellent communication skills and enthusiasm for engaging the public on energy-related upgrades for their homes and transportation.
The Marketing Manager should have experience managing marketing campaigns, engaging with stakeholders and the public in person, and selecting and managing vendors through an RFP process.
The Marketing Manager will be a resource for MassCEC and other state agencies on home electrification marketing.
MassCEC expects the responsibilities of this position to evolve and expand as other state agencies and MassCEC launch residential and commercial building electrification programs.
The Marketing Manager will report to MassCEC's Marketing Director and will work in close collaboration with the High Performance Buildings and Clean Transportation teams.
The Marketing Manager will work collaboratively with Finance, Legal, Communications, Senior Management, and other Marketing staff.Job Duties
Provide comprehensive support to coordinate the day-to-day activities of MassCEC's residential electrification marketing programs, including:
Project manage a busy timeline of collaborations with other staff, stakeholder organizations and vendors, including the schedule for multiple meetings per week and time-sensitive content reviews
Provide feedback on proposed text, images, video, messages and advertising for the MA homeowner, renter, and property owner audiences
Draft and edit new website text and graphics in collaboration with our marketing agency
Post social media created by our marketing agency and use social media best practices to create your own posts and campaigns
Edit content for email newsletters created by our marketing agency and other MassCEC staff and manage associated email lists
Draft requests for proposal (RFPs), review proposals submitted, and manage the contracting process for marketing vendors
Coordinate our response to public inquiries about residential home technologies and incentives, including working with other staff at MassCEC to address technical questions.
Record and maintain awards, contracts, invoices in the award management systemManage campaign metrics, campaign budgets, online files, and contact lists
Continually support the growth of MassCEC's residential electrification marketing and public engagement strategy;
Engage and collaborate with policy making entities and advisory groups about the energy transition and the state's net-zero climate goals;
Identify studies, programs, and best practices on decarbonization marketing and public engagement from outside of Massachusetts for consideration as approaches to adopt within Massachusetts;
Delegate tasks to and assist in the supervision of the work of temporary staff and Interns, as needed.
Position Qualifications
Applicants need not have all qualifications to be considered.
Education:
Bachelor's degree, preferably in marketing, communications, energy or environmental science/studies, journalism, behavioral economics/studies, architecture/building science, business management, or related field; and
A relevant master's degree is considered beneficial.
Experience:
4+ years of experience in marketing, communication, behavioral science, community outreach, and/or marketing with a record of progressing professional responsibility
Demonstrated marketing management, problem-resolution and negotiation skills
Past advertising agency experience preferred
Experience in the environmental, sustainability, clean energy and/or public sector preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multi-task
Strong written, visual, and oral communication skills, including experience communicating on technical topics to the general public.
Experience, demonstrated interest, and/or dedication to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ), environmental Justice (EJ) work, and related principles;
Experience with communications and marketing through various types of social media, including Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, X (previously Twitter) and Instagram
Familiarity with MailChimp, Canva, and Wordpress
Mastery of Microsoft Office, especially Sharepoint, Powerpoint and Excel;
Ability to work on deadline in a fast-paced environment with a keen understanding of prioritization and an ability to work effectively on multiple projects under tight deadlines;
Working knowledge of basic accounting and payment processing (budgets, invoices, etc.) Demonstrated ability to get up-to-speed quickly and work independently;
Ability to read and absorb complex contracts, polices, rules, etc. and extract the information needed to ensure compliance with each;
Excellent problem-resolution skills, and demonstrated ability to make informed decisions;
Team-first attitude and the capacity to be flexible in a dynamic work environment;
Demonstrated ability to work with internal and external stakeholders, and cultivate appropriate relationships;
Preferred, but not required:
Experience with photography and multimedia or video production
Familiarity with relevant regulatory, policy, and programmatic interventions related to Massachusetts' climate goals, especially related to buildings and transportation
