    Description


    About This Position The City of Phoenix's Finance Department is currently seeking two Senior Accountants (Accountant III - Financial Reporting) to work in the Financial Accounting and Reporting Division.

    The Senior Accountant position performs advanced professional accounting work, which requires the application of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) with a focus on financial reporting.

    Duties May Include

    Analyzing financial data and preparing financial reports, including financial statements for both governmental and enterprise funds.

    Assisting in preparing elements for the City's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) and annual financial reports for enterprise funds and joint ventures.

    Preparing/reviewing/approving various journal entries and payment control documents.
    Performing reconciliations of various general ledger accounts, researching and resolving discrepancies, and recording applicable journal entries.
    Reviewing certain revenues received by the City, recording applicable journal entries, and coordinating with other departments as needed.

    Monitoring and ensuring quality in accounting entries associated with Customer Care and Billing (CC&B), assisting in training staff in using CC&B, and developing CC&B accounting/reconciliation procedures.

    Monitoring legislation and City Council activity for financial impacts that may be reflected in the City's financial statements.
    The Senior Accountant will work under the supervision of an accounting supervisor.

    Additional tasks the Senior Accountant may be responsible for include:

    assisting in the implementation of Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements, responding to department requests, and performing enterprise and joint venture accounting functions.

    This position may assist in preparing monthly CC&B reconciliations; assisting in the design and implementation of accounting policies, procedures, and internal control systems; and serving as a professional accounting resource for special projects or major programs.

    Ability to:
    Use SAP to review financial data and post/review journal entries.
    Prepare/review financial statements and schedules using both budgetary and accrual basis accounting.
    Research financial/accounting issues and work with diverse stakeholders to identify and implement solutions.
    Analytical and detail-oriented research skills.
    Professional oral and written communication skills.
    Knowledge of accounting theories, principles, and practices and their application to various governmental accounting transactions and problems.

    SALARY Pay Range:
    $61, $110,510.40 annually

    Hiring Range:
    $61, $90,916.80 annually. Pay Range Explanation

    Pay range is the entire compensation range for the position classification.
    Hiring range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer.

    The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, and or training.

    Four years of progressively responsible experience as a professional accountant,
    including some experience training and supervising paraprofessional and professional accounting personnel.
    Bachelor's degree in accounting, business or public administration or a related field.
    Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

    Preferred Qualifications The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

    Proficiency working with Excel and Word.
    Governmental accounting and/or finance experience.
    Experience with SAP or other large ERP systems.
    Experience preparing financial statements and/or GAAP accounting experience.
    Experience analyzing data and preparing financial reports.
    Experience researching financial/accounting issues and working with diverse stakeholders to implement solutions.
