    Position Summary

    Salary: $70,000.00 to $80,000.00 based on ACCS Board of Trustees Salary Schedule C-3 and experience

    The Director of Technical Services oversees a small group of network and server administrators who provide support and services for enterprise data centers. Additionally oversees classroom/AV support, desktop support, and campus help desk personnel. Assigns supplementary responsibilities pertinent to the role and provides direct reporting to the Chief Information Officer (CIO).

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Provide first line management and hands-on technical coordination of on-site technology staff, faculty, and students in a higher education environment.
    2. Perform full scope of supervisory responsibilities.
    3. Ensure the stable operation of enterprise connectivity for the college. This includes but not limited to planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, support, and optimizing all local and wide area network hardware and connections, wired and wireless, server and storage, associated software, and communication links.
    4. Assess the college's technology needs and make upgrade recommendations. Instrumental in setting short- and long-term IT implementation goals.
    5. Interact and negotiate with vendors and contractors to secure value-added products and services.
    6. Maintain disaster recovery documentation of procedures, access, contacts, and inventory for area of responsibility. Protect sensitive data, systems, and applications from external threats.
    7. Research industry best practices, benchmarks and tools and identify opportunities to incorporate into university best practice.
    8. Other duties as assigned and in support of the client relationship.
    Qualifications

    Education: Associate degree from an accredited two-year college required*. Bachelor's degree preferred

    Experience: Minimum of four years of full-time related experience required

    *A combination of education, work experience and certification(s) will be given consideration in lieu of the associate degree.

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
    • Knowledge of management and/or leadership within IT Service Management
    • Solid organizational skills. Ability to work with staff, faculty, and administration at all skill and management levels.
    • Experience with Emerging technologies e.g. Office 365 Collaboration Suite, and other cloud deployments (e.g. SaaS -Software as a Service, Iaas - Infrastructure as a Service
    • Strong understanding of industry trends and standards, including contemporary Cyber Security methodologies
    • Telecommunications, Windows/MAC Desktop Support Services, printing (i.e. Papercut)
    • Strong understanding of networking, Firewalls, Virtualized Server farms (VMWare),Linux servers, Windows servers, Storage, Backup technologies, and Wi-Fi technologies
    • Strong knowledge and function of Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL)

    Sick Leave
    All regular full-time non-instructional staff earns one day of sick leave which is the equivalent of 8 hours of sick leave per month. Unused sick leave is rolled over to the following year.     Retirement
    The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions. Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control. The Boards of Control elect the Secretary-Treasurer who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the RSA and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the RSA. The TRS is a defined benefit plan qualified under Section 401(a) of the Internal Revenue Code.     Health Insurance
    PEEHIP, established in 1983, provides health insurance benefits for active and retired education employees and is governed by the PEEHIP Board of Control.     This tuition waiver program is designed for all full-time instructional and non-instructional employees of The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education and their dependents as defined under by policy. The program will be coordinated by each institution for employees within The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education. An application form for the tuition assistance program is available in the Human Resources office and should be completed prior to registration for classes.
