    The District Operations Supervisor is responsible for directing the custodial and groundskeeping operations of all school facilities in assigned school district.

    Work is performed under the direction of the Chief of Plant Operations.

    General Education:

    A Bachelor?s Degree in related field with 2 or more years experience as a Custodian Class 4 is preferred.

    Steam Boiler License required, Swimming Pool certification Allegheny County and State.


    Vocational Requirements:
    Act 33 Clearance and Child Abuse Statement 151.

    Essential Job Functions

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Schedule, assign and coordinate employees in heating, ventilating, and cleaning of buildings and grounds.
    • Inspect buildings to ensure proper standards are met and to establish priorities in maintenance.
    • Ensure that emergency situations are dealt with by recalling employees, providing for necessary supervision, contract assistance, and disbursement of information to units affected.
    • Provide technical supervision for employees in cleaning, operating and making minor adjustments on the complex?s heating system.
    • Collect all materials and supplies.
    • Evaluate the effectiveness of samples of products purchased.

    MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

    • Conduct special studies and make recommendations for improved and more efficient operations of school plant equipment.
    • Instruct custodial help in all phases of maintenance and give special help to employees in new positions.
    • Aggregate employee information for disciplinary purposes.
    • Act as a resource person on all matters pertaining to facilities.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Standing:

    The District Operations Supervisor is required to stand approximately 15 to 25% of the workday on all different surfaces.

    Periods of continual standing can be up to 15 minutes at one time, but are at the discretion of the District Operations Supervisor.

    The District Operations Supervisor is able to change positions as desired. Standing is performed intermittently with sitting and walking. Standing occurs on carpeted surfaces, concrete and linoleum surfaces and outside grounds.


    Walking:
    The District Operations Supervisor is required to walk approximately 35 to 50% of the workday. Continual walking is typically performed for periods of up to 10 to 15 minutes at one time. The District Operations Supervisor is able to change positions at his/her discretion.

    The Director of Plan Operations may need to walk the length of any building to inspect any custodial problem that may require the Director?s attention.

    Walking is performed intermittently with standing and sitting.


    Sitting:

    The District Operations Supervisor is able to sit in a high-backed, padded, swiveled chair approximately 25 to 30% of the workday when completing paperwork and answering telephone calls.

    The District Operations Supervisor is required to attend meetings in which case the District Operations Supervisor would sit on various different types of folding chairs.

    The amount of continual sitting is at the District Operations Supervisor? discretion. Sitting is performed intermittently with walking and standing.


    Lifting:
    The lifting requirements of the District Operations Supervisor at times weigh up to 50 pounds.

    This lifting would occur rarely (1-10%) when determining the cause of a custodial problem on any given building and when assisting with correcting a problem.

    The lifting requirement of the District Operations Supervisor is typically between 1 and 25 pounds.

    Items, such as cleaning supplies and paper products, weigh less than 5 pounds or to lift frequently (34-67%) throughout the work shift.



    Carrying:
    The carrying requirements of the District Operations Supervisor are minimal.

    Paperwork is frequently (34-67%) carried during the day throughout the school and various buildings for distances of between 1 to 100 feet at a time.



    Pushing/Pulling:

    The District Operations Supervisor may be required to push and pull any mechanical devices, brooms, vacuum cleaners, when assisting with correcting a problem.



    Climbing:

    The District Operations Supervisor may be required to climb 6 to 8 foot stepladders in order to determine the cause of a problem and to assist in correcting the problem.



    Balancing:
    No significant amount of balancing is required of this position.


    • Stooping (Bending at Waist): Stooping may occur when locating a problem in the ventilation system. However, this is not on a frequent basis. Stooping may also occur when assisting in correcting the problem in the ventilation and heating system.

    Kneeling:
    No significant amount of kneeling is required of this position.


    • Crouching (Bending at Knees and Waist): No significant amount of crouching is required of this position.

    Crawling:

    No significant amount of crawling is required of this position; however, the District Operations Supervisor may occasionally (1-33%) crawl in order to determine problems while working in a crawl space.



    Twisting/Turning:
    No significant amount of twisting or turning is required of this position.

    However, the District Operations Supervisor can, at their own discretion, twist and turn when completing of the requirements of the position, including completing paperwork, investigating custodial problems, assisting with repairing custodial problems, and speaking on the telephone.



    Reaching:

    The District Operations Supervisor is required to reach in front of them on a frequent (34-67%) basis while completing all paperwork, answering phones, and performing their daily routine functions.

    Reaching is primarily performed at shoulder to waist level. Rarely (1-10%), overhead reaching is required when attempting to detect a problem in the heating or ventilation system.


    Handling/Dexterity:
    Fine manipulation is required of this position for computer use. A moderate gross grasp is required with regard to utilizing any of the tools required in this position.


    Hazards:
    All hazards associated with custodial duties.
