- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with visual impairments.
- Provide direct instruction in core academic subjects, including Braille literacy and assistive technology.
- Collaborate with educators and service providers to integrate specialized instruction into the general curriculum.
- Assess student progress and adjust teaching strategies to enhance learning outcomes.
- Use various teaching methods and technologies to facilitate access to the curriculum.
- Create a supportive learning environment that fosters independence and positive social interactions.
- Offer training to staff, parents, and caregivers on supporting visually impaired students.
- Stay updated on the latest trends and best practices in visual impairment education.
- Advocate for the educational rights of visually impaired students.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education, Visual Impairments Education, or related field.
- Valid state teaching certification in Visual Impairments or willingness to obtain it.
- Experience working with visually impaired students, preferably as a teacher.
- Proficiency in Braille literacy, transcription, and tactile graphics.
- Knowledge of instructional techniques and assistive technologies for visually impaired students.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in education.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with students with disabilities.
