The Accountant-Auditor role is unique to the Office of the Auditor-Controller and has a broad scope, encompassing county-wide financial activities.

The primary mission of the Office of the Auditor-Controller is to ensure the fiscal integrity of the County's financial records and provide excellent service, assistance, and information to the public, Board of Supervisors, County Administrator's Office, County Departments and Employees, Special Districts, and some regional non-county agencies.

What you will typically be responsible for:

  • Conducting a thorough examination and analysis of a range of financial documents
  • Ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial schedules and subsidiary ledgers through the process of reconciliation and maintenance
  • Aiding in the preparation of comprehensive annual financial reports
  • Compiling and submitting Federal and State tax reports in a timely and accurate manner
  • Delivering exceptional customer service to the public and other County Departments
  • Providing valuable support in the audit of County Programs and Departments
  • Assisting in the processing of property tax refunds and the management of property tax rolls

The eligible list established from this recruitment may remain in effect for six months.


Minimum Qualifications:


License Required:
Valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License.


Education: 1) Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, finance, accounting, or a closely related field.

Course work must have included at least 12 semester or 18 quarter units from among the following accounting courses:

Principles of Accounting, Intermediate Accounting, Advanced Accounting, Governmental Accounting, Fund Accounting, Cost Accounting, or Auditing;
OR 2) Possession of a Certified Public Accountant certification, Certified Government Auditing Professional (CGAP) certification, or the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) certification.


Internal Substitution for Education:

Four (4) years of full-time (or its equivalent) experience as an Accounting or Payroll Technician for Contra Costa County and at least 12 semester or 18 quarter units from the above listed accounting/auditing courses, w
