- Performs testing and overhaul of mechanical equipment and process piping systems in accordance with applicable procedures and guidelines. Performs tasks for troubleshooting and diagnosing causes of malfunctions on a variety of mechanical and hydraulic equipment and systems.
- Installs and replaces process piping, valves, and other appurtenances fabricated from copper, brass, steel, ductile iron, PVC and stainless steel and other materials common to the industry.
- Performs work involving the installation of complex mechanical and hydraulic systems or pumping units.
- Performs life safety testing and maintenance of backflow prevention devices in facilities located in Distribution and Conveyance Systems areas of responsibility.
- Adheres to Lock-Out-Tag-Out procedure and confined space entry protocols related to the maintenance of mechanical and hydraulic systems.
- Utilizes personal protective equipment (PPE) for mechanical and other hazards within the work environment.
- Performs maintenance-related housekeeping duties as required in the repair and maintenance of mechanical equipment and systems.
- Utilizes MAXIMO Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to review assignments and document work completed in the maintenance of mechanical equipment and systems.
- Maintains equipment and tools utilized to test, repair, install, and replace equipment.
- Maintains and manages shop stock including inventory stored in mobile units.
- Operates Authority vehicles as an essential function of the position. Maintains vehicles and/or equipment in a clean and orderly manner. Reports any operating deficiencies to the appropriate Authority personnel.
- Complies with rules and regulations related to safety and other work-related policies and procedures of the Authority.
- Performs other related duties and projects as assigned at the discretion of the immediate supervisor.
- High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate and four (4) years of progressive experience directly associated with installing, repairing and maintain mechanical and/or hydraulic components of machinery, equipment and systems.
- Must possess and maintain current a valid Motor Vehicle Operating License, a Class B Commercial Driver's License, and a DC Water Vehicle Endorsement.
- Must possess and maintain current the Authority's certification as a Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester.
- Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical and hydraulic principles related to complex multi-component assembles and devices.
- Basic knowledge of electrical and electronic principles.
- Demonstrates ability to use basic test equipment to diagnose and correct equipment and control system problems.
- Ability to use hand and power tools such as, but not limited to, drill press, pedestal grinder, or rip saw.
- Participates and successfully completes fork lift and overhead crane training programs and refresher courses. Ability to properly utilize rigging and lifting equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics and blueprints.
- Basic knowledge of pertinent safety guidelines, rules and regulations of OSHA and other governing entities.
- Good oral and written communication skills and abilities.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrates skills and abilities to utilize standard office management systems, including computers, scanners, copiers, printers, and software for word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and internet based software applications.
- May work indoors and/or outdoors. Environmental conditions include exposure to extreme cold and/or hot temperatures.
- May work in areas of noise, vibration, near moving mechanical parts, risk of electric shock, and a variety of hazards.
- May work in atmospheric conditions of fumes, odors, gusts, mists, gases, poor ventilation, exposure to oils, exposure to industry related chemicals and fluids.
- Ability to lift and carry parts, assemblies, and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Work performed on ladders, elevated surfaces and platforms, and in confined spaces.
- Frequent standing; moderate walking and climbing
- Incumbent is subject to being placed on call during hours and schedule indentified by the Authority and may be required to work overtime during emergencies.

SUMMARY:
The Mechanic I, Industrial PS is responsible for performing testing, troubleshooting, repairing, installing and modifying mechanical equipment and systems. Makes adjustments to various equipment, not limited to, process pumps, blowers, compressors, bearings, valves, mechanical screens, and process piping. Performs preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance tasks.
