Position Title Chair, Chemistry and Biochemistry Job Posting Number 202442TTL Job Location San Marcos Department Chemistry and Biochemistry Position Description

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Texas State University invites applications for an experienced and outstanding senior scholar to serve as Department Chair beginning Fall 2024.

The appointment will be at the Professor level with tenure.

Ours is a multidisciplinary Department with ~35 faculty members, on tenure and non-tenure tracks, and serves ~700 undergraduate majors, ~6,000 non-majors requiring chemistry classes, and ~50 master's and doctoral students.

Faculty research interests encompass a wide range of chemistry and biochemistry - from materials science to biophysics to chemistry education.

The Department offers professionally certified B.S. degrees and terminal M.S. degrees in chemistry and in biochemistry. Additionally, many faculty supervise doctoral students, primarily in the interdisciplinary Materials Science, Engineering, and Commercialization Ph.
    D. program, housed in the College of Science and Engineering.

The Chair will lead a highly engaged and collaborative faculty team committed to advancing undergraduate and graduate teaching and increasing productivity of externally funded research and innovation.

In this way, the Chair will guide the Department in pursuit of the University's goal to advance to R1 status.

Texas State University is a proud Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) with a diverse campus community. The student body includes 40.5% Hispanic and 59.5% total minority representation. Further, 44% are first-generation college students and 36% are eligible for Pell grants.

The remarkable growth of the University over the last decade yielded research expenditures in FY2022 exceeding $110 million - comparable to Carnegie R1 institutions in the country.

This is projected to increase to $140 million in FY2023.

The Chair will be the Department's academic and administrative leader, working closely with the Associate Chair.

The Chair reports to the Dean of the College of Science and Engineering, which boasts the largest student enrollment at Texas State, comprised of the Departments of Biology, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Computer Science, Engineering Technology, Mathematics, and Physics, and the Ingram School of Engineering.

The College also houses the Edwards Aquifer Research and Data Center.

A hallmark of the College is high-quality research, exemplified by seventeen faculty members having received NSF Career awards since the early 2000s.

Our faculty are collaborative and interdisciplinary researchers with strong track records of external funding. We are committed to training our students to be leaders through academically rigorous coursework and impactful research experiences.

These efforts benefit from our powerful suite of instrumentation, including resources housed within the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and in the University's Shared Research Operations core facility.

This position is subject to the availability of funds.
