MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


NY HELPS
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (
NY HELPS).


At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under
NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination.

Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State.

While serving permanently in a
NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.

NON-COMPETITIVE

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

- a qualifying bachelor's degree AND proof of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination OR
- proof of passing the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) AND one year of full-time mechanical engineering experience.

Qualifying degrees:

Aerospace Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Architectural Engineering Technology, Building Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Management, Construction Engineering Management Technology, Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear Engineering Technology, or Engineering Science with a recognized concentration in any of the above listed engineering degrees.

COMPETITIVE

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Duties Description

  • Assist with the reviews of construction documents (drawings, specifications, and other supporting documentation) for conformance with applicable codes, rules, regulations, and standards;
  • Assist with the review of changes submitted for previously approved projects for conformance with applicable codes, rules, regulations, and standards;
  • Provide technical assistance to school districts, architects, and engineers working on public school projects;
  • Assist with responding to correspondence from a wide range of individuals, including parents, citizens, school administrators, consultants, and legislators;
  • Perform research, as necessary, to resolve code related issues;
  • Make field visits and inspections, as required, to investigate code compliance, complaints, or emergency conditions;
  • Assist with review of publicschool building energy consumption and operations in compliance with NYS Energy Code and provide direction to improve energy performance; and
  • Perform special projects as assigned.

Additional Comments
This position leads to a maximum salary of $91,381 based on annual performance advances.
