- Support and implement the creation and execution of engagement programs designed to deepen the BSO's relationship with the community. This includes program design, budgeting, implementation, and evaluation.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community organizations, schools, and other stakeholders to facilitate collaborative programs and initiatives.
- Oversee the planning and execution of engagement events, including logistical arrangements, participant coordination, and on-site management.
- Work closely with departmental colleagues and other BSO teams to ensure alignment of engagement activities with the organization's overall strategic goals.
- Develop and implement tools for evaluating the effectiveness of engagement programs and prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Recruit, train, and manage volunteers or part-time staff involved in engagement programs.
- Represent the BSO at community events and meetings, acting as an ambassador for the orchestra's engagement mission.
- Work in a collaborative setting with a strong senior leadership team.
- High degree of diplomacy and ability to deal with and influence persons in all types of positions.
- Anticipate, understand, and respond to the needs of clients to meet or exceed their expectations within the organizational parameters.
- Work cooperatively and effectively to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions that minimize risk and enhance organizational effectiveness.
- Assess situations to determine the importance, urgency and risks, and make clear decisions which are timely and in the best interests of the organization.
- Bachelor's degree in arts administration, Music Education, Community Development, or related field.
- 3 - 5 years of experience in program management, preferably within arts, cultural, or non-profit organizations.
- Strong project management skills, with a proven record of successfully developing and executing programs.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including community partners, educators, and artists.
- Familiarity with the Boston community and its cultural and educational institutions is highly desirable.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required for program events and activities.
- Passion for the arts and a commitment to the BSO's mission of fostering music education and community engagement.
- Demonstrate commitment to organizational diversity and inclusion strategic direction.
- Interpersonal/influencing/negotiating skills.
- Proven ability to effectively manage time and prioritize appropriately.

About the Role
The BSO is seeking a dedicated and innovative Program Manager for External Engagement to join our Education and External Engagement Department. This role is central to our mission of enriching lives through the power of music, with a particular focus on expanding our reach and impact within the community. Reporting to the Director of External Engagement, the Program Manager for External Engagement will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing a variety of engagement programs that connect the BSO with diverse audiences, particularly focusing on educational and community-based initiatives. This role offers the opportunity to be at the forefront of shaping and expanding the BSO's community engagement efforts.
The successful candidate will possess the ability to build strong relationships, understand stakeholder needs, and develop recommendations to drive robust engagement practices. This role is for those who are passionate about the translating the universal power of music into a sense of mutual belonging at all BSO venues and beyond. Additionally, the ideal candidate possesses strong interpersonal skills, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and enjoys collaborating with colleagues with the institution and communities across Boston and the Berkshires. This team member will show up in this role as one who is enthusiastic about bringing the best talent to the BSO through being inclusive and welcoming to all.
