    Description
    Job Title: Associate - 508 Compliance and Visual Impact

    Remote or in-person in Chicago, Washington D.C., Portland, Denver, San Francisco, or San Diego.

    Salary Range: $55k-$85k

    Description:

    If you have "fluency in technology" and are able to quickly assess technology challenges,consider individual and team elements, and research and lead project and internal technology deployments, then this is the position for you. This role is intended to serve the digital needs of the firm, both internal and external. Two key success factors will be guiding K&W's established but growing 508 compliance work and capacity development for digital engagement tools like virtual meeting platforms and graphic design.

    This position could be conducted from a remote office from any location in the United States or the staff member may choose to conduct their work in any of the Kearns & West office locations.

    Job duties:

    Digital engagement
    • Event technology design, support, and troubleshooting
    • Webinar management and technical facilitation
    • Internal platform and tool management
    • Digital engagement research and support
    • Requirements gathering and data synthesis
    Visual Impact (VI) and 508 Compliance
    • Template design
    • Document formatting
    • 508 remediation of word documents, PowerPoints, handouts and flyers in PDF format
    • Support documentation creation (developing how-to guides, leading trainings)
    Kearns & West Training and Support:

    Currently, a team of three leaders from DC, Denver, and Sacramento offices lead the VI and 508 team and delegate work to about 10 staff in Kearns & West's various offices. Kearns & West 508 and VI team will provide 508 and VI training that evolves from basic to specialized over the course of the first 6 months with a concentration of training through the summertime as schedules allow. Team trainers are the 508 and VI team leads. The team will continue to identify needs for specialized training on 508 and Visual Impact needs that apply to complex documents and unique compliance requirements.

    Experience:

    General Technologies
    • Strong knowledge of the Microsoft suite – Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, and PowerPoint
    • Strong knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite – Acrobat, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver
    • Strong knowledge of webinar and synchronous technology platforms –Zoom, WebEx, MS Teams
    • Knowledge of GIS platforms and deployment requirements
    • Knowledge of charts, graphs, and visuals / graphic design a plus
    Facilitation Skills
    • High attention to detail.
    • Capacity to rapidly distill core strengths and constraints of technological platforms
    • Strong writing skills
    • Good time management skills to prioritize and plan for multiple updating multiple documents for different projects on different schedules.
    • Ability to work well independently to complete assigned tasks on time.
    • Ability to concentrate on independent work for long periods of time.
    • Ability to work with a team to prioritize workload and be clear about schedule and availability to complete assignments.
    • Interest and ability for information technology problem-solving.
    • Ability to receive input on work and incorporate it into improved product.
    • Ability to generate and communicate ideas for solutions to increase quality and decrease cost.
    508 Compliance Qualifications
    • Demonstrable experience in 508 document compliance
    • Interested in problem solving, patterns, trial and error
    • Overarching interest in ensuring equitable access for materials and resources for those with disabilities or other access barriers
    Visual Impact Qualifications
    • Demonstrable experience with making documents meet visual impact standards
    • Experience with Microsoft Word format painter to visually match visual impact templates to the document to match colors, shapes, fonts, size.
    Additional:

    The qualified candidate may also bring additional qualifications including:
    • Graphic design capabilities
    • 508 remediation certification
    Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, codified at 29 U.S.C. § 794d, requires Federal agencies to use information and communications technology that is accessible to people with disabilities and to give Federal employees contractors and members of the public with disabilities access to information comparable to the access available to those without disabilities. While Section 508 only covers Federal agencies, many States have enacted similar legislation requiring Information and Communication Technology (ICT) accessibility.
