    Overview:

    Job Summary:

    Ropes & Gray is seeking a Director of Global Marketing to lead our externally oriented team and the ongoing development and execution of the firms revenue growth strategy to achieve increased volume, profitability, and market share, consistent with the firms brand and strategic plan.

    • We are looking for an experienced, dedicated, and knowledgeable marketing expert to help create, communicate, and execute a growth strategy and oversee an integrated marketing function, inclusive of institutional and employer branding, creative, events, digital, social media and alumni, DEI and regional marketing and business development. Were seeking a strong leader with superior people skills who will foster an environment of teamwork, innovation, technical marketing knowledge, and professional excellence.

    Structure:

    Reporting to the Chief Marketing and Business Development Officer (CMBDO), the Director of Global Marketing will be a key member of marketing and business development leadership. The role will work directly with the firms Support Leadership Team (SLT), partners, and business, client, and practice development directors to design and execute effective integrated marketing and business development plans and campaigns to support the firms growth strategies.

    The Director of Global Marketing will have senior level direct reports, including directors of each dedicated marketing channel and function.

    Responsibilities:

    The Director of Global Marketing will oversee and lead teams in the following critical areas:

    Marketing and Business Development Infrastructure

    • Implement new project management system across the marketing and business development department that will standardize the firms marketing and business development approach, increase transparency, streamline campaign ownership and accountability, improve internal client service, and enable new management reporting, including results tracking
    • Operationalize internal client support through internal management tools, processes, and guidance to optimize internal service delivery, visibility of global marketing activities, and reporting
    • Create new processes around information sharing to drive further adoption of effective techniques and innovation
    • Help finalize, internally promote, and implement new brand guidelines
    • Develop and maintain marketing templates, content, and repository that standardizes firm branding and creates efficiency

    Marketing and Business Development Technical Expertise

    • Drive identification and adoption of best practices across every marketing channel, function, and execution
    • Collaborate with marketing, technology, and knowledge marketing teams to maximize utility of existing marketing technology systems and assess any functionality gaps
    • Set new processes around marketing campaign goal-setting, including use of industry benchmarks and quantitative performance metrics, to drive clarity, effectiveness, and accountability for each marketing execution and campaign
    • Develop internal programs to increase internal awareness of marketing best practices
    • Provide advisory support to business, client, and practice development directors regarding their annual marketing and business development plans and approach to every campaign
    • Monitor external environment, including competitors and other professional advisory firms, for new techniques and ways to increase impact of marketing programs and campaigns

    Knowledge Marketing

    • Work with business and practice development directors to create and execute strategies that educate and inform clients about the firms knowledge, products, services, and industry expertise
    • Develop and produce content that provides value to firm clients and establishes Ropes & Gray as an industry/practice expert
    • Lead new institutional surveys and firm-branded content that supports growth strategies across multiple practice areas and industries

    Integrated Marketing

    • Collaborate with business, client, and practice development directors to develop consistent, client-focused marketing and business development strategies
    • Contribute to comprehensive marketing plans; make strategic recommendations in relation to practice groups or firm participation in events, driving best practices and integration of multi-channel strategies to create measurable impact
    • Create consistency in message and tone in descriptions about the firm and its practices, as well as its professional development, recruiting, pro bono, diversity, and alumni initiatives
    • Help tailor brand messages for each practice, industry, and client group in alignment with overall firm positioning and differentiators
    • Develop overall internal and external video marketing strategy; conceptualizes internal and external video marketing campaigns to further firms strategic priorities

    Alumni Relations

    • Oversee the alumni marketing team; collaborate with the firms practice groups to develop alumni outreach plans that support the practices overall strategy; work with partner co-chairs of the alumni committee to develop the strategy, work plan, and infrastructure necessary to support the programs goals
    • Work with co-chairs to periodically collect feedback on program from alumni and firm lawyers; revise or re-calibrate strategy and work plan, as needed
    Qualifications:

    Education, experience, and essential capabilities required:

    • Bachelors degree (masters degree preferred) with at least 20 years of experience in relevant area, such as leading a marketing and business development department for professional services firm
    • Ability to win the respect and confidence of the firms PGLs, IGLs, OMPs, and SLT by exhibiting a strong drive for results reflecting an ownership mentality; ability to influence behaviors and gain consensus at all levels of the organization
    • Ability to inspire trust quickly, exhibiting a collaborative work style, persuasive and influential at the executive level, and proven ability to manage and follow-through on situations and/or events successfully across client teams, levels, and regions
    • Proven success recruiting, mentoring, managing, and developing high-performing teams that are culturally and strategically aligned; outstanding people-assessment skills and the ability to vet and evaluate complementary personalities and professional abilities
    • Demonstrated ability to motivate and develop a large marketing and business development team and success mentoring and developing staff
    • Excellent verbal and written business communication skills with extensive experience creating presentations, visual and verbal
    • The highest standards of integrity, honesty, and mutual consideration
    • Exceptional project management abilities including setting priorities, planning, organization, follow-through, delegation, and negotiation skills
    • Well-honed analytical skills and facility with financial metrics, combined with sound business judgment
    • Proven ability to manage through change in a positive manner
    Comprehensive and Total Rewards Package:

    Ropes & Gray is proud to offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package to our business support team members. The firm also offers comprehensive health and well-being benefits, personal and professional development, career growth opportunities and a collegial and supportive culture. The anticipated pay range for this role for Boston is $229,000- $362,000 and for New York it is $240,500- $380,000 which represents our good faith and reasonable estimate of the starting salary range at the time of posting. In addition, this role is eligible for a discretionary bonus based on performance. The actual offered rate for this position will be determined based on job-related, non-discriminatory factors, including qualifications and experience, geographic location, education, external market data and consideration of internal equity.

    Working Conditions:

    This position requires hybrid on-site presence as an essential function of the role. Consistent and predictable on-site presence is required for ongoing business continuity, professional development and effective collaboration with colleagues and management.
