Duties:


As a Data Scientist in DTR, you will:

  • Lead the technical efforts of data collection and analysis with assistance from other data scientists and report and recommend findings and solutions to the head of the Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Application Branch.
  • Serve as an advisor to the DTR and ORF on all aspects of data quality for NIH aseptic facilities.
  • Coordinate the technical, daytoday processes for data protection by developing strategies for permissions management, data classification, identity and access management, threat detection, and security analytics.
  • Employ Python and Azure technology to enhance realtime data collection and processing for NIH's climate control systems. Utilize Azure Event Hubs, Data Lake Storage, and Databricks to ensure efficient data flow and storage, automate data cleaning, and enable scalable machine learning operations. Implement Azure DevOps and Infrastructure as Code for continuous system improvement and robust data governance.
  • Develop and deploy advanced statistical models and machine learning algorithms using Python and Azure Machine Learning. Utilize deep learning and ensemble architectures for predictive analytics and employ Azure Synapse Analytics for integrated data exploration. Innovate continually with new analytical techniques, including ensemble methods and natural language processing, to enhance prediction accuracy and operational strategies.
  • Leverage Python and Azure tools like Power BI, Tableau and Azure Grafana for creating dynamic, interactive visualizations. Interpret complex model outputs to guide strategic decisionmaking, focusing on energy efficiency and operational improvements. Ensure effective communication of datadriven insights across the organization using Azure DevOps and Communication Services for collaborative and strategic presentations.
  • Foster a collaborative environment through workshops, sharing insights on the latest data science techniques, and aligning projects with organizational goals using Azure DevOps. Engage with stakeholders to integrate practical insights into model development, ensuring analytical solutions are operationally relevant and technically robust.

Qualifications:


Basic Qualifications for a GS-1560 position:
In order to qualify for a Data Scientist GS-1560 position, you must:


  • A. Possess a Bachelor's degree, or graduate/higher level degree with a major study in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science, or a field that is directly related to the position.

B. Possess a combination of education (at least 30 semester hours) and additional appropriate/related experience that is the equivalent to a major in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or a field directly related to the position

Additional Requirements for a GS position:

In addition, in order to qualify for a Data Scientist, GS-1560 position at the GS-13 level, you must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level obtained in either the private or public sector that included the following tasks: managing structured and unstructured data sets using data analytical tools such as Python, SQL, and Azure Databricks; creating and implementing data collection and analysis tools while utilizing programming languages and environments (e.g., R, Python, SQL, Scala, Java, C/C++, Julia); using machine learning to build predictive algorithms; creating data visualizations using box plots, density plots, histograms, scatter plots, etc.
