Job Description

Varney & Co. is seeking a talented Line Producer who is organized, hard-working, and possesses strong control room experience with excellent editorial judgment. The ideal candidate can craft compelling newscasts swiftly, adapt to breaking news, and has outstanding communication skills. This individual thrives in a fast-paced breaking news setting, looks to advance within the company, and take on more responsibilities.

A Snapshot of Your Responsibilities

• Build fast-paced, captivating newscasts under deadline pressure
• Propose and implement creative and innovative ideas for segments and guests
• Effectively communicate needs with Associate Producers, Bookers, and Production Assistants
• Write engaging teases
• Time the show in the control room and maintain clear communication with the anchor
• Organize and develop story placement, graphics, writing, and all other editorial and production components
• Coordinate with on-air talent, reporters, guests, and director to ensure proper show execution
• Collaborate with the showrunner and show team
• Engage in editorial planning and direction for the show
• Edit video, sound, and book guests as necessary; contribute to social media as required

What You Will Need

• Bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience
• 3+ years of professional experience in a live television control room environment
• 2+ years of professional experience in line producing in the control room
• Thorough understanding of U.S. business news and politics
• Strong editorial judgment
• Swift and precise writing skills
• Ability to create compelling graphics for broadcast
• Capability to work effectively under tight deadline pressures
